Warranty Direct Age and Mileage Restrictions

Is there a definitive age and mileage where Warranty Direct stop offering their top level of cover, or is it part of the haggle process.

We are going to look at a few 2nd hand D4's and getting a decent warranty could be a deal breaker. Whilst there are some negative reviews about WD, the majority seem to think they provide the best cover in after market warranties, certainly better than some of the cover back street garages try to flog!!

A couple of examples we will look at are rather more than I'd ever thought I would consider paying for a 'proper' 2nd hand car and to try and alliviate some of the risk a decent warranty is essential.

I know we could stick to the main dealer network for a virtual new warranty, but it seems to limit the choices, especially in the 3 to 4 year old bracket.

I would definitely consider a slightly older model if you could obtain decent cover for it Thumbs Up

I looked at WD for mine 6 months ago & was told couldn't have it due to mileage too high, I think iirc they said 128k, for mine so opted for full AA inc parts/labour upto £500

I've just gone with WD, luxury care for 13 months at £699, felt it was better cover than what LR offered, all covered as the milage is under 60k after that the betterment clause comes in but you can haggle that out. They seem quite happy to cover you up to 100k.

Thanks for the replies. So highish mileage is ok,but how about age. I see you have a 2013, so still a pretty good risk for WD. But how about 2010/11/12 models. Do WD start loading the policy outside the manufacturers warranty.

Fill in the online form on WD with the details of your planned D4, don't be put off by the first price they give you, they will contact you in a few days with a better offer. Thumbs Up

I'm with WD I have a rolling month by month contract so covered till the vehicle is either 12 years old or 120K miles.

Bare in mind that used approved from land rover now come with 2 years warranty, that would cost you £1800 with WD for top luxury care cover.

Worth thinking about when essentially you're knocking £2k off the price off approved versus private or indi dealer (their warranties are worthless) Thumbs Up

I bought my D3 and had the owners plan transferred. Unless you are on the top plan I don't think it is worth it. I had a £2K bill at Brooklyns (maybe that is my problem) and WD picked up £100 of it or so.

£1800?? you could get 2 years for much less than that. Bear in mine warranty direct cover wear and tear, land rover do not.

I have just bought a 4 year 3 month old D4 with 47k miles on it. I haggled with WD and got luxurycare despite me starting over 4 years old.

I looked at LR dealerships and same car was £4-5k more expensive and having had the approved warranty from LR it isn't (in my opinion) worth the paper its written on for the most common things that go wrong on a D3 or D4. I had a number of failed components (mainly suspension) that I tried to claim for unsuccessfully with LR as all were classed as wear and tear.

I would have taken extra care but they offered the upgrade to luxury for £13 a year. No brainer really. I pay £50 a month for the policy and this is with betterment removed as well (as I will hit 60k miles pretty soon). Yes its £1200 over the period with landrover but at the end of the LR one you will be 6 year old and only have the choice of extra care maybe even only select care.

Pete Thumbs Up

Thanks one and all for the input.

I have been crunching the numbers and I do think an independant dealer with a WD policy seems to be the most cost effective way into a D4. The main dealers are just so much dearer that even with the 2 year warranty they just do not seem good value. I assume the main dealers will discount when pushed, but I don't think they will give the percentages needed to even the balance.

Anyway, I'd forgotten how hit and miss looking for a new to me 2nd hand motor is. These dealers really know how to describe and present a vehicle that looks the business, when in reality they are far from it. Luckily they were fairly local but still feel robbed of a few hours!!
