Door lock

Drivers door usually unlocks on one key fob press then all others on the second press. Now car has started to need two presses to unlock the drivers door. Wouldn't open first thing this morning and when I did trick the handle by pulling hard, the alarm went off.
Door lock motor needs stripping down/replacing?

ASAP before you are locked out!
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

mmmm... that's what I was thinking. Thing is we're not close to home at present and wasn't looking forward to doing it somewhere out and about. It's also a decision about a strip down and clean up or complete replacement at £100ish.
Trawling back through previous posts I saw a mention of the correct 433Mhz version and a different and incorrect lower frequency one. If the central locking is done presumably by one receiver then why is this relevant to the lock motor itself?

Because the lock motor is fubard, a strip down and clean of the motor will usually suffice or you can fit a new one at great expense Laughing or even greater expense fit a new actuator, see below.

It's the larger motor of the two that is the usual culprit.

Takes a good hour to change the actuator when you know what your doing, nearer two hours to strip the actuator, clean the motor and refit. Thumbs Up

p.s. Don't forget the Elastoplast Laughing
p.p.s. In the meantime check the emergency key lock in the passenger door is not seized and give it a double dose of wd40 or you will bee really in the shyte if it fails completely, also check every time you lock that the drivers door is locking Thumbs Up

just done 2 locks on mine near side rear and near side front this week for the same reasons and faults you are having
got one new off ebay for £60 and one second hand off ebay for £35
took an hour per door but straight forward when you know how to release the door handle
bolt off bolt on, now everything perfect again
hardest was disengaging the front window glass from the second plastic clip but its easy enough

the locks are simple replacement and no coding needed Thumbs Up
the locks are also the same spec on a freelander 2 and RR I believe

A great piece of advice M3DPO. One of our rear doors wouldn't lock with the fob. I was watching a replacement lock on the bay, but after reading this I decided to have a look at the motor. Sure enough it was a mess! Cleaned it up, refitted the lock, what do you know? it's all working fine again. Thank you very much. Thumbs Up
