Autobox - Dr Tranny

I changed the fluid (5.5 litres) and filter on my 110K gearbox. (and reset the adaptive learn)
The old fluid was black.
The new fluid is a nice colour after 1 month.

I still get a bit of a thump on downshift when coming to a stop.

Does Dr Tranny get rid of this or is it designed for other symptoms ?

No, it won't stop the bump, if you only put 5.5 ltr in, you've only half changed the oil and it needs doing again, even then it will not be as good as a full flush. There is no known cure for the bump it seems Shocked

So even new cars have the bump ? or low mileage cars have the bump ?

I think 7 litres is the full quantity for a change, so 5.5 litres is more than half.

I was surprised to see how clean the fluid was after 1 month, as I was considering another flush.

Bump seems to start around 80k miles.
Auto gearbox holds 11ltrs.
A flush is done with a dialysis machine, you are only changing the oil in the sump which is half the contents of the unit, the other half is in the TC and gear box, so by doing another sump change there will still be 1/4 of old oil left in, this is far,far better than not changing any.
It's a bit like a fly crossing a ceiling, if it can only walk half the distance left it never, ever gets there Laughing

It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I think 11 liters is exaggerated. I recall seeing 9 liters mentioned for a fill from dry.

I didn't change just the sump oil. I followed the excellent guide on here, where by you disconnect the cooler pipe (as the mega flush) and run the engine for 30 secs. The fluid in the TC is then pumped out 8) (into a large container).

You then drain the remaining oil from the sump.

It cost me £125 including a new filter which I think is very good value for money, considering some of the prices for a megaflush I have seen on here. These don't even change the filter which had been doing its job (parts of it looking clogged).

Guide here:

When putting the oil back in, I had to put it back into the radiator end. (not where it came out)

and only £40 if you aren't in a hurry. (via myhermes)

Gearbox was fine before (apart from the issue at the start of this thead).
Had it in 2 months
Gearbox was lovely after the oil change.
I reset the adaption, and it goes horrible for a bit while it learns.
Back to normal.

Personally I wouldn't bother with the adaption reset unless you have an issue.

Metal Sumps.

Try and get one with a drain plug. They don't all have one.
