Battery issues.

Hi guys. Having a problem with my 11 plate disco 4 WITHOUT stop/start.had a new alternator fitted which totalled my old battery. Had a new o e fitted curtesy of halfords but still having trouble. The car starts but hesitates and if you leave the ignition on withoit the engine running it takes all of 2 mins before shutting down and giving me the low battery warning on the dash. The battery taken off was a 12v,90ah,750a halfords fitted a 12v, 85ah, 800a battery. Is this sufficient or is it underpowered. I know the alternator is working as it is charging at 14.7v. Any help appreciated..

Is your car a 2011 or 2014 as in your profile.

If its 2011 see below.

The OEM battery was a WET 90ah 950 cca for 2010/2011 as far as I can find out. Having said that I think you will be ok with your new one.

I dont think you need to reset the BMS when you change the battery as happens automatically with the time it takes to change the battery over. ( it drops any power in the CPU's same as a hard reset)
It will take a few trips and around a 100 miles for the BMS to learn the new battery's size.

If the battery was not fully charged before it was fitted or you have drained it a bit leaving it below a full charge you will get the low battery warning. I had it yesterday when I left the sidelights on for 4 hours.

Have you charged it up since and have you checked the voltage after it has gone to sleep.

My thread when I was asking questions is https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/2010-battery-type-ccf-193933.html

Popping my reg into the Halfords search tool, it brings up a battery of that spec ... Yuasa HSB110 Silver 12V Car Battery 5 Year Guarantee
it also pops up Halfords 019AGM Start/Stop AGM 12V Car Battery 5 Year Guarantee.

019 is the type I'd expect to see and it's 900A/95AH so it's a bit beefier ... but new I'd expect the 110 type to be easily up to the job.

I know your car is 2014 so perhaps newer than the usual ones with the issue, but it's worth having a good look at the earth straps ... especially under starting load.

oops. hadn't spotted the 11plate vs 2014 mismatch. makes no difference though except earlier car more likely to have earth strap issues.

My Bet is Halfords battery was not fully charged up when fitted or its been run down a bit since.

Sorry me bad, profile still has my 64 plate discovery that was stolen. Definitely got a 11 plate now. System updated with new battery command. Just wondering about ampage as some websites are telling me the battery for a disco 4 is a lot more powerful. One website says the battery I need is 12v, 100ah,840a. Just seems strange that my interior lights are really dim when unlocking the car but if I turn them on with the engine running they are quite bright. Same for my folding mirrors, when unlocking they unfold/fold really slowly but with the engine running quite quick. Would an under powered battery cause other issues ???

Sorry forgot to say after the new battery was fitted the car had a good run of 200 plus miles purposely to give new battery a good charge. But still get the low battery warning after about 2 mins without the engine running.

earth straps looking more likely the more information you give ... especially the dim interior lights.

get a jump lead or something suitable between battery -ve and body then engine. if one of those makes everything brighter, look for the strap that's meant to be doing that connection.

If the battery was sold in a partially discharged state, the alternator may not necessarily recharge the battery fully.
Put it on a decent smart charger and let that do its job, but it may be on for a few days before it is happy the battery is fully charged
