Not Starting after fuel filter change..

Hey guys!

(Typing on my phone so please excuse typos!)

I changed the fuel filter on my Discovery 3 today, she then started and ran for 10 seconds before cutting out.

Things I’ve tried:

Checked all hoses are in correct pipes on filter, triple checked. (I can pull one of the pipes out without needing to squeeze the sides, it does take a fair old tug thoihh)

Ignition on for 40 seconds, off for 10, repeat 4/5 times

Opening up nipple ontop of the engine and fuel does come through at good pressure.

Tried changing back to old filter and still no joy!

What shall I try next do you think?

Thanks in advance

If you can pull a pipe off without squeezing the clips something is wrong, my guess is you’ve got the pipes on wrong or not pushing fully home and air is getting in the system, is it a genuine LR or OEM filter you are fitting?- if not that may be your problem.
Does the pipe pull off on both filters or just the new one?
Does the fuel come through the bleed (Schrader) valve at a steady flow with no bubbles?

Thanks for the reply!

It’s a Britpart filter.

I’ve tried to get a picture of the hoses, this is the best y could do!

Fuel was coming out in a steady stream from the nipple.

Early D3 seem to take more starting after fuel filter change than later models, bleeding the system without cranking the engine only bleeds the LOW pressure system, the high pressure pump must be cranked to bleed.
First be 100% sure you have fitted the filter pipes correct, they should “click” into position, then go through the engine on/ off procedure as you have done, then crank the engine, it may take some time for it to bleed the HP system and start, make sure your battery is well charged.

I changed my Fuel Filter earlier this week.

One of the pipes (can't remember which sorry) needed a very firm push to get it to click fully home.

Like you I turned the IGN to position II around four times leaving it for 30 seconds or so. Like you it started but cut after a few seconds.

I repeated it a couple more times but on the last time I also depressed the Schrader valve until to bleed any remaining air and it ran fine then.
 I see no ships........

We have life!!

Popped a new battery in as that was my plan for the afternoon anyways, just kept on trying, and turning over.. think I was not turning over for long enough as I was scared of cooking the starter!

Thanks so much for your help…! New thread coming soon regarding traction error 🤣🤣..

Why buy a 16 year old LR, because I love stress apparently ha.

Next time just turn the ignition on for 30 second then off and gack on for another 30 seconds before you try to start the engine to fill and bleed the air out of the filter.
I did the same as you the first time but never had a problem again
