My D3 is in at our local indie having been recovered a few weeks ago when it lost all acceleration and started to misfire. The injectors were sent for testing and came back fine but the problem persisted so they suggested the high pressure fuel pump which has been changed but not while the car runs a bit better it is chucking out a lot of black smoke and apparently has a strong smell of burning oil. They have changed the oil filter and apparently there was very little oil in the engine so have said that they think the turbo has failed. There were no warning lights not he dash when the problem with the engine cut out and the codes that were read by the RAC are below so any help to shed light on what the problem could be would be very much appreciated.
DTC: P140A,Exhaust gas recirculation sensor C
DTC: P0578,Cruise Control Multi-Function Input A Circuit Stuck

So they started on the fuel side without checking the basics, levels etc?
You need to clear codes and then see which if any come back.
