A little help! 3.0 head and 2.7 block

Hi, I’m new to the forum but bagged myself what I thought was a bargain of a D4 in March. It came with what was sold as a reconditioned TD3.0V6. I had a couple of issues with restricted performance that were fixed by a new o-ring, but then it started leaking oil badly. I was told it needed a new oil cooler, which I did. And then was told that the engine was actually a 3.0 head and a 2.7 block and it would always leak oil. Setting aside the obvious fraud that the seller has pulled a fast one on… 2 questions for whoever might know… is it unusual to combine the two? And why would it leak, even if the oil breather had been modified for compatibility.

Hopefully I can get some clarity on this and fix the oil leaks. I’m currently financing a small Saudi nation with the amount of oil I’m using.

I’m guessing by the zero responses that an engine head and block combo of this type is not usual!

Can't say I've ever heard of that swap but the bore on the 3.0 is bigger, so there may be issues with the gasket amongst others. Why we're the later heads fitted? You'd imagine there should be plenty of 2.7 heads in the graveyard!

By the way when it comes to LR there's no such thing as "a bargain" . Inevitably there will nearly always be a price to pay Laughing

Ha! Yes I should have said relative bargain! I was sold the car as a 3.0 with a reconditioned engine. I had no reason to doubt the seller (he lived near us and we bought our Xmas trees from his farm!) but he must have known since he commissioned the engine swap and bought the replacement engine. Anyways - that aside, it works well enough. Tbf it wasn’t leaking oil when I first got it but it seemed to have started after it was serviced and I had a maf issue with restricted performance. Not linked but coincidental in terms of timing. That was fixed by a new o ring but the oil leak was supposedly then fixed by replacing the oil cooler. They told me then that it was a 2.7 block and that it would always have leaks but didn’t specify why or from where but offered to rectify the whole thing for an estimated £8k … clearly not an option! I’m not convinced that it should be leaking like this but there is a definite issue. I’ll start chasing the leak down I guess!
