Does 7 go into 5? Seats that is...

Good evening to everyone in Discoland!

I'm new to D3 ownership and new to these types of forums, however I've both been amused and enlightened by some of the content I've seen, and so now here I am.

I wonder if some clever soul can answer this one. Is it possible to fit the third row folding seats into a 5-seat Disco3? Apparently the Series II's had different floor pans which meant this did not work, but I'm really hoping the D3's can be retrofitted.

Cheers all,

Dan

I think legally you'll need self levelling suspension if you do. Probably wrong though.

I thought the floorpan for D3 5 and 7 seaters were different (The D2 was the same floorpan for both, but all 7 seat D2 ran on rear air suspension, and were only homolgated in this form).

would mean also you have to change the rear side panels since you must have safety-belts etc.

so it's not an easy conversion to do.

think you'd be better off keeping the 5-seats before starting to drill wholes for the third row Wink

Agree with Al, only those with Air-suspension are type approved to have 7 seats. The 5-seater coilers are not, that's why we got such a good deal on our 5-seater at the time - the previous sale's person dropped a big clanger and didn't check for 7 seats before ringing the client to say "Your new car's ready for collection" - oh, and he forgot the customer had ordered an Automatic Shocked . Hence he's now an ex-salesperson Laughing

It's certainly air-sprung so no probs there, but it sounds like you guys are saying the chassis is different between the two, and so the mounting points for the seats and belts are not there. Not so good. Crying or Very sad

Maybe there's an aftermarket kit? Or am I just clutching at straws...!

as far as I'm aware they are the same. would be too costly to make seperate ones. you also need to consider the centre row and how you would access the third row. I am not sure how the centre row on a 5 seater folds forward and how much access it provides. lift up the rear where your tools and towbar is kept and investigate. mounts might be there.

I think the 7-seats can be factory fitted only and there is no possibility of retro-fit. Same as with the rear diff lock Crying or Very sad .

It is possible to fit the extra seats, someone on here has done it, IIRC correctly they bought the seats from another member in Ireland.
