Wouldn't be without a warranty. Last 12 months repair bills would have been in excess of 4K. Mines an my2008

Ditto but not as high as 4k this year, has been for a couple of years though. These can be very expensive cars to keep going. The trick is to get one one else to pay for it. Whistle

Use Warranty Direct, lots on here re WD, they don't cover everything so treat it as covering the big things, everything else is a bonus. Paid for itself every year. Thumbs Up

Should be able to get it down to £550 - £600. With no wear & tear from day 1 (if oming from a warranty) "no betterment", airbags & emissions, 13 for 12 months and main dealer rates. Mention here for club discount. Treat em mean, keep em keen. Thumbs Up

I got through £6500 in my last two years of having a 2007 D3- I didn't have a warranty! Foolishly thought that nothing that bad could happen. It did, twice so I now have Skoda. If I was to become a D3/D4 owner again and I would dearly like to I would make sure I had a warranty even at £800. Too unreliable and too expensive to do without.

If I couldn't get a warranty I'd seriously think seriously about chopping the car. Sad

Only had the standard 3 year warranty and relied on the tool box for next 5 years.

I'm still up on the deal.

But you know what to do with spanners, not a skill I have. To me DIY stands for Destroy It Yourself. Whistle But you've still got to pay for parts, I've had 3 turbos on 2 D3s, even DIY that would have been pricey. Whistle

Or I just keep being lucky with cars. I had my D3 for nearly 8 years and in that time I had:

Compressor failure
EPB actuator failure
Seat memory module
Compressor failure
ECT failure
EGR failure
ECT failure
FBH failure - fixed without parts
Battery - a consumable part really
Door lock failure

Plus additional minor items requiring no parts (quite a few of these)

First 3 items covered by LR, took a bath on the next 2 as done at dealer prices (I was away, car with wife) but all the rest were £50 or less issues with my spanners, leaving the battery as the biggest expense but not sure that would be covered by a warranty. I've had similar luck with all my other cars and even if I shelled out on a new engine or 2 in the future I would still be up on the deal. The forum enables many of us to attempt diagnosis and repairs that otherwise would have gone to a garage and triggered a possible warranty claim. Just having a code reader has saved serious money and a great deal of stress. The spanners are great for doing simple jobs like pads, discs and other consumable parts plus adding additional toys.

I had a warranty, only ever paid out once for a compressor, even though I nad to replace all 6 injectors and the engine! Big Cry Big Cry

A halfway house would be the AA breakdown repair cover, up to £500 a claim and I think 5 times a year, cost is around £150 a year including home start and recovery etc.
