Rear Tail Lights
Has anybody rewired the rear tail lights, to be brake\tail lights. Only reason I ask is, they use the same bulbs anyway, and it seems such a simple mod.
i.e. buy replacement bulb holders and re-wrie with the addition of a wire for brake.
a tail light is a different wattage than a tail light...which held good when we didnt have LED systems.
The standard filament bulbs are the same filamaent type light bulb but a stop & tail bulb has a different "base" thatn a tail lamp.
Also the bulb holder is diifferent - to accept the differnt bulb bases
dont get caught out at MOT time by having wrong wattage ones in the right places
......have a good look on here to find the thread about LED upgrades for most of the bulbs on the Disco....lots of opportunities to improve things at a reasonable cost.BREXIT - done properly.

Err, it can't be just mine, but on the Disco 3, the tail lights, are actually half a brake light. i.e. the bulbs are actually the same, but the holder has only one contact at the base instead of two. So by re-wiring the holder you would have double brake lights, and double tail lights, instead of double taillight, single brake light. (On each side obviously)
& I will have a look at mine this evening
...I am considering buying the CAN bus bulbs from the site sponsors on here (Model380 @ £27.99 a pair) + many other LED bulbs for my D3BREXIT - done properly.

Dragonfly, I know what you mean, as you rightly said, there are two identical stop/tail bulbs either side in the D3 rear lights with both wired as tail lights but only the upper ones are wired for the stop light function, the lower one just serves as a handy spare since the 21W filament always seems to fail first.
I considered doing the mod you suggested but was put off to some extent by all the horror stories of multiple errors caused by faulty stop light bulbs, I was looking at LED's instead but at about the same time, Duckworths had some late D3 LED rear clusters similar to D4 on offer so I went for these instead.Clive

hi i wired my tail lights so that when i brake i have all the rear lights lighting up it is easy enough to do on the bottom rear lights the bulb holder is single pole replace that one with a double pole bulb holder and wire from brake lights just above and put in dual filiment bulbs then everything lights up looks really good from behind and bright.

That's exactly what I was thinking. are the bulb holders a LR Dealer only part?

Not 100% sure (heard it somewhere) that 3 brakelights was all you are allowed by law

There is a thread / post on how to do this somewhere. I did it on mine a few years back and had no probs with MOTs, although they do keep changing the law these days. Simple job you just need to find some thin conducting metal to place through the hole and solder a wire to it, much easier than soldering a wire to the bottom of the bulb IMHO!Club N.E.R.D.s
