| Possible 'Big' issues. Warranty/savings account. |

Hi,
Have been given a quote from Warranty Direct of £599 for comprehensive protection against the cost of mechanical and electrical breakdown for your vehicle.
Things like air suspension and similar bits are not included. I am unsure of whether i would be better of putting money away than taking out the warranty as my fears are that if it breakdown then the issue probably won't be covered by warranty.
I am not sure exactly on what is/isn't (as in the main issues with these cars) covered even after reading this policy document.

I find it amazing anyone would provide a warranty for 7 year old car with over 100k on the clock. I suspect it cant cover much. If it was me I would save your money for the wear and tear items that it wont cover....

Don't do it!
I was in a similar situation to yours except that the warranty came with the car when I bought it at 97k miles. I upgraded the warranty to cover more parts for 6 months. When I came to claim for suspensiion problems they refused quoting wear and tear etc. I fought back saying how could they take my money for a 5 year old car and then quote wear and tear as some of it must have been 'worn and torn' when they accepted the cover which they did without any inspection. Eventually they settled for 50% of the bill. In effect I got my money back off them but a lot of hassle.
Plus yours is coming up for the 105K service which is a biggy with both front and rear engine belts (if it's not already been done of course)
Save your money, find a good independent LR garage and spend your money there. 2005 D3 TDV6 HSE

It actually covers quite a lot, it doesn't cover the clutch or any part of the suspension as I suspect that it is a one size fits all policy. IE not many cars have air suspension so it will have been omitted.
It covers the main expensive things like the engine and gearbox. Not sure it would cover the electronic brake thingy though. To be honest, stick the £599 in a savings account and add to it when you can because these cars really aren't as bad as this forum makes them out be. People find this place when they have issues so is not representative of all Disco 3's. I've had mine ages and done thousands of miles with no issues except a broken spring on the handbrake shoes.
It has now started to sink over night but the worst case is the air compressor at £450 and is liveable for now until I can be arrised to look for the leak! 
Don't worry about reliability, Discos aren't that bad and the pros more than make up for the cons. And let's face it, you knew what you were buying when you bought it so just enjoy it. If it breaks then worry about fixing it!  You guys are gonna be busier than a test bench in a plunger factory!

I (and a feww others I know) have the AA breakdown repair policy, its relativly cheap, includes full AA cover and you get 5 clkaims up to £500 a year. It seems to pay out a lot more than other more expensive warranties so well worth it in my book. Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Just got a nice cheque for £430 for some transfer box work from my warranty co. and she's 7 years old (almost) and 100k, well just over.

Trick is to keep it covered, then you're just renewing so they're less scared of old & high miles.
PS had a warranty on the car (and SWMBO's now departed D3) and I don't think I've ever received less than I paid in premiums. Hopefully can extend a couple of years but covered now til Aug 14/130k miles.

Longest time i have had a car is 6 months but would like to keep this for a while if it proves to be reliable. Had the big service 2 months ago so that should be fine.
What are the big costs associated with these? (price wise)
Turbo
Air suspension etc.

Exect to pay £550 - £600 a year but level of cover will depend on age & mileage. Had turbos replaced by both waranty cos (one twice) and loads of suspension bits. Lots of info on what various warty cos offer in Fin&Ins section.
With these warranties not everything is covered, if you want that buy a new or newish car, you'll still be putting your hand in your pocket, but they do provide cover for the big ticket items like engine. I look at everything else as a bonus.

AA for me too. £16.00 per month covers recovery of car and caravan, also up to 5 claims per year which I think is actually £700 per claim
