Warranty Direct - Terrible follow up sales call!!!

After receiving an online quotation for my new/old disco, I have just received follow up sales call from Warranty Direct.

I had a terrible experience with their sales agent. I was patronised, pressured and spoken to in a condescending manner - Simply for asking a few questions that any customer would be entitled to do. I asked to speak to a line manager but was refused.

I will lodge a formal complaint. Any suggestions / thoughts?

Cheers! Andy 8)

True, however I think i would probably go for a warranty for peace of mind and if complaining gets me a better deal, i will use it to my advantage. However, I just dont think i should be spoken to and patronised like that... we dont complain enough in this country Mad

This was something I posted hust over a year ago on another thread.

To be clear I only got to the purchase stage of the warranty with WD and I have no experience of them beyond that other than hearing from others ...and that has been some very good and some very bad. I'm not judging them on the warranty itself .....I'm judging them on

a\ Insinuating I was lying when I gave them a price that I was looking for based on a price offered to someone else with the same vehicle and the actual words were "How do I know you are telling the truth about this price..you could be just making it up" Shocked

b\ negotiating arguing about what was going to be included to the point where I felt I was doing him the favour of buying the bleedin' warranty

c\ Not return my calls or e-mails when the policy schedule arrived and was missing the agreed items. This is the final nail that drove me to cancel TBH

d\ wanting to charge me a refund % before the active date of the warranty.

They're tossers. However, I have found the product to be good if stressful to use at times.

FYI, because of how they calculate sales, you stand a better chance of blogging a good deal with extra this and that thrown in if you can haggle up to the last working day of the month. Wouldn't bother this early on. (or so one of their folk mention a few years back after the longest call ever).

Lodge the complaint.

If they are serious they will come back to you and it will no doubt be escalated. Do you have a contact name of whom you spoke with?

Complaints (especially when it comes to winning new business) will typically be treated with some serious focus. If you get nothing back when you complain at least you know that you have done the diligence and can move on to another company.

With the money you're proposing to pay them each year... buy premium bonds.
Only cash them if you need to pay for a repair that the warranty would have covered.
Much more fun and no time wasted complaining or arguing! Thumbs Up

I've found them fine to deal with so far - may have helped that we were negotiating during the last couple of days of the financial year, mind you.

Everyone seems to be learning at last [from bad experiences] about these aftermarket warranty companies.
I've been saying for years to forget them and put some funds on a monthly basis into a pot.
Worked well for me with my old D3.
When anything was required whether it was repairs or servicing, money was always there ...
.... and I didn't have to argue with anybody Rolling Eyes

Think about it.... why are these guys offering to repair your car for you?
To help you ...... ?????
.... forget it, NO .... it's a business and they want to make money out of suckers like you.
It's a numbers game and a few will reap benefit ... but the majority will not IMO
...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

They've been hassling me for the last month since I requested a quote online. I just hang up now. Evil or Very Mad

Worse than that, though, is that I've noticed an increase in SMS spam since I first was stupid enough to give them my mobile number. Most of which was from Moneysupermarket.com of which WD is a subsidiary. Of course, they denied passing any of my details on to Moneysupermarket.com when I queried this with them.

Needless to say, I did not buy the warranty and I've decided to risk not having one. Shocked

I think of it as a simple matter of insurance - not having cover on my last car has cost me the thick end of £10k in the five years since the manufacturer's warranty expired, most recently in the form of a completely unheralded conrod/main bearing failure in a sub-100k mile car.

Mind you, that was a French engine, so no way it could ever happen to a Discovery. Smile

Research on here convinced me that I could find an aftermarket warranty that would cover me for all the properly wallet-wilting things that could happen to the car, so that's what I've done - self-insurance is great until you have to pay out on a claim...

Update: I tweeted a complaint at their twitter feed, emailed the general email and sent a private in mail to the MD on Linkedin.

Twitter people came back first... and are now looking into the call... at least its being addressed. Companies are very aware social media channels can ruin their brand reputation very quickly...

I found the guy I dealt with really helpful. As its our first disco and funds are tight we excited to get the top warranty available just for peace of mind really I know it makes more sense to put money away instead but I've been trying that for the past 10 years to pay off my overdraft and am still at 0 lmao keep finding things to spend it on or 'borrowing ' it
