Tyre size and TUV / MOT
My car is up for the German MOT version, TUV in 2 weeks.
I run 20" Coopers LTZ, but 20" are not mentioned on the carpapers as an approved size. I know this will be an issue.
Is there any way to get an official document stating that 20" are approved as wel?CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS

If it helps chap my 285/50/20 sailed through the last 2 MOT's no problem.
Not sure if the German one is stricter?

No 20" wheels were type approved for the D3 (or the other way around, whichever is the case) so TUV won't be having it!06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

In Germany they look if your size is in the official car documents. For the D3 it states 19" max....
I know in Holland its not a problem eiher just like the UK. Unfortunately its different in Germany.
So I need some sort of document stating that this combination is allowed/approved as well.CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS

There are TUV approved D3's in Germany with 20". Apparently they have some "official" document by the rim manufacturer that they fit with the car. So its not that black and white...CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS
If your papers were issued after October 2005 they contain only one tyre size. This is the tyre size the car was delivered. More legal tyre sizes are mentioned in the handbook and/or the COC document. The TÃœV organizations runs a database with all legal tyre sizes for your car and can check this for you in advance to your TÃœV date. You can get your tyres approved by TÃœV on a separate check (can be done at the regular TÃœV date, but you have to pay an additional fee).

Hi Voug,
I have the COC with all sizes and a 2011 print from the TUV database.
Last time I went I had 19" instead of the original 18" which came with the car.
However 20" is not mentioned on any of these documents.
Do you think that this seperate TUV tyre check solve the issue?CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS

LR never offered the D3 with 20" alloys, either as standard or an option in the UK, its just that we dont have the same tight TuV controls you do.

this is an interesting topic and I'll have a TÃœV-type test again in about 2 years. With LR 19" wheels on, no doubt.

isnt that the problem, LR never supplied 20's (factory fit or an option) on the D3.

@Renton: If your 20" tyres are not mentioned in any document you have get them approved by an authorized TÃœV station. You will receive a paper stating that your combination of tyres / rims is legal for your car. Without this paper (present at the TÃœV date) you will fail TÃœV. There's only a little chance that the person checking your car at this date will ignore your tyres / rims (but occasionally this happens ).
IMO it's not worth to fail TÃœV due to "illegal" tyres 'cos you will get the approving papers without problems - 20" "normal" tyres / rims are no problem for this car. And don't forget: If there's an accident you're involved illegal tyres are a big present to your insurance company to reject your claim.
If there are any doubts: Go to your nearest TÃœV station and speak to them in advance - most people there are friendly and helpful 'cos youre their customer !
@LHD: It doesnt matter if your wheels are LR OEM / original or not - if the size (better: all parameters) doesnt match their database you will have a problem. Personally i have 20" original FFRR rims with 255/50 R20 tyres but without special approval the are illegal because the offset doesnt match to the tyres in the TÃœV database.
