Thud from the front when cornering

Evening all,

I have got a bit of an issue with a knocking/thud noise coming from the front of my Disco 3. Apologies in advance as I'm sure this comes up time and time again. I've had a bit of a search around on here, but couldn't really find anything that matched the symptoms.

The car is a 56 plate HSE and is giving off a loud clunk/thud/knock when cornering in the wet (either direction). The only way I can describe this is as if something were rolling from side to side and then a thud as it hits (only you don't hear the rolling if that makes sense). I might add that this is only in the wet and in the dry I get a loud creaking noise instead. This only started after having the front ARB bushes replaced earlier this year.

Here is what I have had done to the front suspension over the past 18 months.

- Ball joint - track rod end
- Steering ball joint/track rod both sides renew
- Lower front suspension arm both sides renew (failed MOT on these)
- Air suspension calibrate and software update
- Links ARB both sides renew
- Bush ARB both sides renew
- Offside wheel bearing/hub renew (post ARB work)

I really do feel its an ARB issue considering its only been happening since work was done on it and the knocking/thud only really occurs when cornering. Certainly hoping its not something more serious as I've got work lined up soon for most of the rear suspension to be replaced.

Thanks in advance.

I know this sounds a bit unlikely but I had a similar problem with my SWB patrol about 15 years ago. Nearly drove me to distraction as we had a dry spell in Sydney. Every time it went to the garage it had been dry for a bit and it was perfectly ok. Eventually waited until it was really wet and making constant thumping noises, I took it to the local 4WD experts. Fortunately it was a quiet saturday morning and having warned me what he was going to do he swerved slowly over a couple of kerbs and then said "I thought so, you have at least one loose body bolt."
Turns out there were two loose bolts.
From memory the car was about 14 years old they replaced the bolts and it was fine. Mind you given its age and hard life they had to cut the offending bolts out and replaced the others.
It was still going strong when I sold it aged 20!
Oh for the simple reliability of the patrol!
D3 nearly 5yrs old, just ordered a D4. Friends think Ii am nuts as I have had a new engine (at less than 2 yrs old) followed by a variety of problems and then an electrical failure requiring retrieval from the middle of south australia to Adelaide, new engine wiring harness flown in from the Uk.LRA paid for the hire car and motels for 10 days. Everything under warranty.
However I would not return to the agricultural nature of a patrol. Long drives along outback roads, just can'tbeat the comfort of the D3.
Hope you get it sorted out before it drives you nuts too.
