Valuing a disco 3

Concidering selling up my disco 3, it’s becoming a bit too big of a project for me. Wondering what it be worth or am I just looking at scrapping/breaking it as the best get some cash back option. I may keep it and struggle on but I’d like to know If it’s worth it or if it just wasting my time and it’s cut my losses time.

Payed £3300 for it back in January with 202000 miles approx had had all belts changed around 195000 miles. The motor is currently approaching 206600. Admittedly now I payed way over the odds for it I think but some of this stuff is had too find during a quick viewing.

List of the faults:
Poor hot and cold starting believe this could be stater motor on the way out.
Auto box slipping under constant throttle and acceleration (header tank level dropped) think this may be a cracked radiation leaking coolant into box hoping to find out for definite this week.
Bald patches on roof and bonnet.
Sizeable dent on rear passanger quarter that I have tried to remove myself and haven’t honestly improved the situation (note to self paint and body guys are worth their pay check ) bits stretched and probably will need cut out and welded and the rest of the dent taken out with a slide hammer and studs.

Small dent on drivers rear quarter.
Air suspension fault believe leaking from front distribution valve block.
Slightly noisy compressor could possibly do with a rebuild.
FBH not working
Ripped divers seat and heater not working.
Bad rust in passenger rear wheel arch, possibly extending on to sill.
Probably same on drivers side.
HDC fault I think linked to hand brake.
Front parking sensors not working,
Interior bar drivers seat in good condition for age.

May persevere with it but I just wondering what my options are. Don’t want too spend to much money on a vehicle that ain’t worth it.

Unfortunately, the rust alone should have made you walk away…

The welding bill alone come an MOT would stop me bothering to repair that.

Yes I can weld but I don’t want to be opening up a never ending can of worms.

Unfortunately the rust didn’t look to bad when I bought it and it was mainly hidden behind the wheel arch liner.

Honestly, it's probably worth more as parts. If anyone offered you £750 I'd take it and run.

Yeah I thought as much to be honest, so it’s either spend double the vehicles value on parts, thankfully using my own labour and solider on or break it for parts.

I take it he’s possibly ended up in the unfortunate position of having to more than ounce

Deffo strip. Worth far more as a pile of parts than a car. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

There are enough "good" body D3s around that just need the engine swapped.
That alone could be worth up to a grand to the right person.
As Del will tell you, stripping a Disco is an art!
As long as you have the space, time, and inclination it will bring far more than what it is currently worth (quasi-nada!)

Alternatively, if you have the time, space, expertise and inclination you could buy a D3 with a blown engine, but a good body. Make one really nice D3, rustproofed etc. to keep and sell all the left over parts.

Yes, exactly that!!
Thumbs Up

D3s could be the going the way as older Discos', with I & IIs fetching silly money if they are in good condition and people looking for Tdi engines and non-rotten chassis/body to do exactly that.

I wish I had that kinda space and that kind of time but I’d be stripping as much as possible and cramming it into my council garage and selling off if it didn’t shift quick ish. Engines a good runner should do someone a turn, auto box possibly save able but might see if a rebuild specialist is interested in buying it. I’d be borrowing space to break it that’s the big problem.

I'm 63 miles up the road. Biggest problem is that SWMBO thinks the 10 cars we have is already a bit excessive! Sad

If you still have it come the end of tourist season we'd probably have space to break it though.
We got a 3* (or maybe even a 2*) airbnb review with the guest saying everything was great but there were a lot of cars on the property. Thankfully the Dutch guests all seem to think having some classic Brit and German cars about the house is a bonus!
