I'm reading these forums, quite frankly  myself at the prospect of getting into Land Rover ownership however I don't seem to give a damn and I continue to consider it to be a good idea (man maths I guess).
What warranty options are there and are they any good?
I'm not sure how good something like Warranty Direct is. If the engine goes bang, are they going to cop for it?!
There is of course the main dealer's option, however I have no idea what it costs and again, if it's worth having?
I don't know quite what I'm going to by yet - am tempted by a Range Rover, Disco 3, Disco 4 and Evoque so exactly what I'll buy yet I'm not certain, but I'm sure I'll come to a well reasoned decision (impulse buy!!).
Any help guidance would be great.

landrover warranty only up to 100k miles...about 900 quid a year...but to be honest,,if it hits the fan 900 quids is small fry...well worth peace of mind...

warranty direct is my choice, never had any problems with claims to date, just make sure you research the cover you require -lots of info on the forum ....................................................................................................
If my wife ever sells my stuff for what she thinks I paid for them, you lot are gonna get some bargains!

Be careful with Warranty Direct if you intend to go off-road. I was looking at buying for my D3, but when I read the terms in depth, I noticed that they specifically say that off-road use is not covered. When I rang to clarify, I asked "So if I take my LR green-laning, will that completely invalidate the warranty?". The guy went away to speak to his supervisor and came back to say that if I went green-laning, Warranty Direct would not pay for any repairs, and no, they didn't mean breakdowns whilst off-road. they meant the whole thing. There are two rules for success,
1. Never tell everything you know.

Agreed, that's why I went with Adrian Flux and explained exactly what cover I wanted. There are two rules for success,

Dont forget green lanes aka byways are legit highways and should be covered by insurance.
As for warranties Ive never taken one out on anything Ive ever bought and I mean anything.

Wow, I'm amazed to hear about the off-road bit for Warranty Direct. I won't spend too much time off road, however will obviously wander off road shooting etc.
Are there any other policies worth considering?
I had a look at the WD policy is just over half the price of the LR one.
As I say, if the car needs a new engine and 'box, are they going to pay out? I don't even know how much these would be!!

I've had both Warranty Direct and AutoProtect.
Switched to AutoProtect at my last renewal as they offered me more cover for longer (more mileage) at around the same price.
For all the occasions I have had to use them so far they have been fantastic. Including my alternator failing at 0840am, taking the battery with it. Going straight to a garage of my choice with it and then collecting the car at Noon with new battery and alternator and AutoProtect picking up the bill.
Warranty direct are just as good in my opinion but in this case AP offered the better cover.
I'd happily recommend both companies to friends and family so for me it's down to who gives the best deal at renewal time.

Ask WD (and more importantly, your insurance company) if green-laning counts as off-road. There are two rules for success,
1. Never tell everything you know.

I got a email confirmation that off reading was covered by warranty direct, as long as it was not competition.
I specifically asked for it in writing. That was a while ago though, so might have changed now.

Interesting; when I said "green laning", they said it wasn't covered. I was in two minds about taking a warranty out with them, given the age of my D3. When they were asking for a 50% contribution towards parts cost, then refusing cover for green-laning, I decided it wasn't worth it. There are two rules for success,

I considered AutoProtect three years ago when I took out my Warranty Direct policy.
The reviews then were dire - Google "AutoProtect review" and you will see.
My WD warrantee is coming to an end at 6 years & 69k miles, can anyone recommend an alternative to WD?
I live on a BOAT ("Byway open to all traffic") & had to get written clarification from WD that this didn't in effect mean "no cover".
