which brake light bulbs do I need? |
|
Off down to Halfrauds at lunchtime... which ones do I need, again?
I've already made use of both spares (i.e. by swapping top & bottom over on each side, as needed). I don't fancy the LED route as they seem to be about 10x more expensive, so I can afford quite a few more bulb blows whilst sticking to the good ol' tungsten jobbies. Also, IMHO, you need to change ALL bulbs to LEDs if going down that route, or things look a bit odd.
Enough of my rambling... if anyone knows, I'd appreciate it. DGRR

Hmmm, one blown bulb = £60 fine if you meet the wrong policeman. I'd go with the LED's myself. Oh, I did! I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

£8.99ea, so £36 for all 4 versus perhaps a tenner for 4 from Halfords? If you do stick with filament lamps the type want is the 21/5W 380 Stop/Tail with offset pins. Pretty much a universal bulb for brake/tail lights.
EDIT: TOO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THESE BULBS AND WITH ULTRALEDS TO BE ABLE TO RECOMMEND I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

IIRC they are double, no, single, no...err.... haven't got one in front of me (or in the car any more, because I've got...... Oh, you know ). p257 of the owner's manual confirms them as 380 P21/5W. Armed with that you'll get the right lamp. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Decimal point in the wrong place on their stock system? I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Yup. [marks&spencer]It's not just any double filament bulb, It's a Land Rover Approved double filament bulb with added Land Roveryness served in bed of cardboard box with a Land Rover logo on it.[/marks&spencer]
To you sir, that will be whatever figure I reckon I can get away with, followed by a token gesture "loyalty" discount when (and only when) I have had the pleasure of seeing your eyes bulge out of your head. Nice 'n' bright though the LEDs are, they're not cheap at £17.98 a pair. Even more so when compared with the 2-pack of P21/5W standard bulbs I just bought from Halfrauds for £2.49! DGRR

I got quite fed up with the Halfrauds ones several years ago - they never seemed to crimp both ends of the filament properly, resulting in a failed bulb every couple of months. Annoying thing was looking in the bulb and seeing one end of the perfectly intact filament waving at you
Do they still do this, or are they safe to buy again? Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?

How do you replaced the light bulbs? Do you have to take out the complete taillight? Were are the screws?

Screws are on the inside of the tailgate, one top one bottom. Open the tailgate and they should be straight in front of you.
Yes. The whole assembly comes off. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
