Hi all,
Not my D3 but a mate who’s got a D4. Getting white smoke out the back, Halfrauds is saying new turbo required, £2200. Booked in for the end of the month. Anything he can check in the meantime? Doesn’t smell right to me 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey
My Wife thinks the D3 is a hobby, The D3 thinks the wife is 💕

How do they know which Turbo it is?
Do you mean it doesn't smell right as in the smoke doesn't smell like the turbo has gone? it's quite a distinct smell..
How much is it smoking? all the time of just on acceleration?
is it losing oil?
If the turbo has gone, it's not a good idea to drive it for 3 weeks.. Disco4 MY16 SDV6 Landmark Black

Doesn’t smell right as the possible cause 
He’s stating more revs more smoke. 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

Who the F**k takes a D4 to Halfords to fix? Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

Tell me about it to be fair he sent it to Halfords for diagnostics and it’s going to an Indy for the work :)just want to check thoughts for him that it would be the turbo replacement required or if it’s worth him checking egr or similar before spending the big £££ 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

Suggest he go somewhere else for diagnostics... have seen the hash that Halfords make of changing a light bulb, I'm not sure I'd trust them to properly diagnose a failed turbo. If it's not that then it'll be wasting everyone's time when he takes it in to the Indy.

lack of turbo boost usually causes black smoke! White smoke is usually an injection issue.
