Wiper blades banging the side of the windor frame

My front wiper blades, when on the "really fast" setting, seem to be "over-running" and are banging into the edge of the window frame on the drivers side and making an annoying noise as a result each time they "hit". I checked it wasn't my imagination and put my finger there, and they definatley bang into it each time.

On normal speed, they work fine, and stop just short of the edge of the window, with no noise.

Do I have to go to the dealer, or is this an acceptable job for LR Assist?

For the record, back in the winter my wiper blades packed up totally and I did call LR Assist, and they sorted it within 5 mins of arriving - but on that occasion the car, in rain / snow, was effectively not driveable...

What d'ya reckon? What constitutes a reason for calling LR Assist vs a trip to the dealer?

Could be that they're set slightly too high at the parked position, maybe just one notch on the spline, easy enough to adjust if that's the case.

Otherwise there could be some slack in the mechanism or the pivots on the arms.

So if you were mechincally inept like I am, would you feel you can call LR Assist for that?

I couldn't really say, though it's not really an "emergency" that's stopping you going anywhere - unless of course the banging noise is doing your head in that badly Laughing

For me, I'd just get a spanner out Whistle

My D3 did that (wiper slamming into the window frame at fast setting). Loosened one bolt on the wiper arm and adjusted it. I believe I also found a TSB mentioning something about splines being worn and the arm moving if not tightened. Mine has been fine since then though, so I never got around to asking a dealer about the TSB.

Well I went with the dealer option. And top marks Harwoods Croydon. Called this morning, they asked me to pop in at 2.30pm, and did the job in 10 mins whilst I waited. Most helpful! Thumbs Up
