wiring trouble whith the starter motor ?

Hi everybody

yesterday my 2005 Disco 3 SE was working perfectly Rolling with laughter
This morning I put the ignition key on 1, everything lights up perfectly... but when I try to start, nothing, all the lights go out...
I immediately thought of a dead battery but that is not the case.
The battery is good (on the green light) and even with another battery from an other car, the starter barely turns.

I suspect a wiring trouble whith the starter motor...

But I don't know where to start...
( alternator was changed last year)

Thank you for your advice

You could use a jumplead to connect between the battery - and the engine metal work, and try and start it.

also check the thick earth cable between the battery and the inner wing (where it goes on the inner wing)

thank you both for this advice
I'm going to try as soon as I can this week.

Wath surprises me is that everything goes out on the dashboard when I try to start it, but it doesn't come back on when I release the key. While the battery still appears to be charged (green light on the battery)

PROFS have you ever had this short on the diff?

I also heard about a short problem in the left front Wong, but I can't find this post (now that I need it)

This morning is worse

Yesterday I charged the battery and put it back this morning with 13 volts.
Well now nothing lights up on the dashboard!!!
I added another battery with cables, but nothing lights up...

By moving the negative battery cable (I think) I triggered something and I heard a noise, a light was flashing on the dashboard (see photo), I don't know what it's for, and that stopped as soon as I turned the ignition key.

In summary, a charged battery but no power
Gap odb II is not powered therefore useless

I honestly don't know where to look...

How to Access the Ground Cable Connection in the Inner wing ?

Thank you for your help

Does this also help ref the earth connection point, personally to make life easier I removed the plastic wheel arch liner , think u can access it by just peeling the front of the inner arch back

There’s also some earth points behind the headlight

Have u also checked the fuses in case something blew

What year is your car. Early one don’t have the cable in the wing.

I’d say is the earth cable between the battery and the inner wing as mentioned in my post.

Cable isn’t very long. You can see both ends

To test it just get a jump lead from the battery to a good earth on the engine, this will tell you if its the earth cable problem. I would also check the red cable to and around the bottom of the engine as its know to chafe in this area. Also check for water ingress in the main PCM and 4x4 unit behind the battery.

Flack Thumbs Up

Thanks to everyone and especially to Pete !

I used a jumper cable to connect the battery and motor, and it started !

I noticed that some equipment was no longer working :
exterior temperature sensor and odb socket.

Now I have to fix this ground wire...
Should I change it or work on the connections to the frame?

I would work on this connector by the battery.
Remove, clean, refit

Thanks again Pete!
I cleaned the connection (which seemed clean ...) and the engine started immediately !

On the other hand, I still have no ODB and no external temperature information on the dashboard

I’m going to test the ODB fuse but I don't know which one protects the exterior temperature sensor.
