England 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Manual Tonga GreenDiscovery 3
My 2005 Discovery 3

I'm back. Previously had my manual silver D3. I still have the V8 Range Rover that I swapped it for, but today I bought a high mileaged 2005 Discovery 3 Auto TDV6, 212000 Miles. No MOT. Injector seal suspected of being blown as it ticks loudly on idle. Been off the road since August 2019. The interior has more mud in it than you would find in a field. I also desperately need to find the bolts or the nuts that hold the passenger mirror on as that is currently not attached to the car. Need to sell my D2 ASAP to make up for the hole in my bank balance buying this one Laughing

Pictures from the advert I responded to:

This is how I found it (Buried at the back under the tree's out of sight:

The previous owner delivered the car to me, now it is home. Tuesday it is going for an MOT.

Fantastic - I love a project like this.

Do you mind sharing how much a ‘high’ mileage Disco with No MOT’s are going for these days?

I will be following this with interest!

I don't know if it's the going rate, But I paid £1400 which included it being delivered 20 miles approximately.

1st problem to sort today is the battery, turns out, incorrect size battery fitted. So new one reserved with a 5 year guarantee. Wiper rubbers are torn, so new blades also reserved. Once the battery is changed out, I will run diagnostics and go through the entire system in detail. Got the wheels to change over today as well and the interior will at least be started on as it is awful Shocked Laughing

Quickly, don't think so at the moment Laughing I thought a Discovery 2 with 97000 miles would sell fast, but apparently not. I have a low mileaged D2 which this is replacing and used my overdraft and credit card as a bridging loan to buy it Shocked Thinking that the D2 would sell fast. Saying that, I only advertised the other car last night at about 7pm Laughing

Well my D2 sold today, and I think the D3 saw the wad I was given and decided it wanted some of it Laughing

The ticking is more of a tapping and is metallicky, so think it may need a top end rebuild. It is going for its MOT anyway tomorrow. Insured it today, think there are 2 things it may fail on. But will see.

The interior has been hoovered and washed, but not thoroughly. But much better than before, but the rear seats had broken clips, so just removed the seats. I have been offered a full set of non mouldy seats, will see what happens at MOT time tomorrow.

Outside has been washed as well, loads of bulbs replaced, new wiper blades, handbrake wasn't working, now is, Going to cruise up to the MOT at 50 as the car hasn't been driven over 15 miles an hour for over a year Laughing

Wow the interior looks awful, but at least the body colour is fab. Good luck tomorrow.

Ooh, thanks for the heads up. As it happens. The EGR is showing as faulty on the diagnostics.

Well........ this was a short lived story! EGR turned out to be blanked, just for reference.

But on the 1st September, I decided to drive it to an MOT test... Made it 9 miles into my journey, MY FAULT I KNOW, I had all the warning noises but was hoping it would make it to the garage, and sadly after 9 miles of plenty of power and super smooth driving which amazed me, it cut out and I managed to coast it along the A21 to a slip road near Sevenoaks where I was recovered by the AA to my trusted garage, and found that the engine has suspectedly spun a shell, but the crankshaft is seized solid, so solid that the garage were unable to undo the pulley bolt Shocked Censored

So, I took a chance, I lost out. I spent a few hundred in new parts of things I thought it needed for an MOT which I have now removed again apart from the bulbs. And this one is on ebay for sale. And will be on the sales pages of this club shortly. Although if I can find storage for it, I am considering keeping it.

I have bought another Discovery 3 though. Very Happy So a new Diary is being started for that one.
