Took delivery on the 4th Jan this year.
Now completed 24,000 miles.
At 50 miles back to dealer for new turbo.
Then new coolant expansion tank, new rear view mirror (fell off after service, took four visits to repair), drivers seat collapsed (bolts fell out), new steeting column, modification to rear wiper (stuck)
I'm sorry to say but this is apauling, have now covered 2000 miles with no faults-this is a first.
Customer care/service by main dealer awfull, verging on negligent.
Would I have another-NO WAY.
SorryXX Disco 3 on order

Unlucky.
45K and only major fault is a squealing EPB (recently - just an adjustment post service), coolant level sensor (bad batch of parts and fixed with no issues on engine safety), missing Memory Seat Module (fitted and missing Settings Menu appeared).
She's never stopped (apart from occasional off road getting stuck that is).
So I am more than happy.
My Audi and BMW were far lees reliable.

65k now had problems all got fixed given decent loaners whilst she was poorly. Getting another and want to keep this one If your dealer had performed like mine has do you think you would have a different opinion. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Hi Bitwobbly
I joined this forum when my dealer told me that it was a forum for ALL VIEWS good and bad. As soon as I started trying to be "realistic" and seeking "balanced" viewpoints - It was made very clear to me that this is a forum for "PRO" Discovery people only.
Interesting comments you make.

To be honest, some of the issues with D3 are putting me off ordering one. There seem to be so many, some serious, some not so, thatyou really have to question what these motors will be like when they are say 5 years old. The wife and I are looking to buy something (with our own money, not a company car), and realistically will want/need to keep it for maybe 8 years. Whilst I realise that many of the issues are slowly getting sorted by upgrades etc, I wonder how private owners will fair at 5 years plus if all of the various computer controls and electronics on the car start to go into meltdown.
Don't get me wrong, I think it is a superb machine and most definitely has the potential to be the best of it's type without question, and I have also been a Disco fan for many years. Having said that though, it just seems that the quality and reliability is not there, nor is the level of dealer support that you really should expect with a £30K+ car.
Have to confess that we've also been looking at a Toyota Landcruiser (yes, I know that is a swear word on here - sorry!). I know that technologically it lags behind the D3, but it is a very nice machine; well put together, undoubtedly very capable and unquestionably reliable. I think if you are honest, many of you would have to admit that it is the sensible and reliable place to put £30k, particularly if you do not happen to have money to burn.
Unfortunately then, I'm running out of justifications to buy the D3. It is a stunning machine without question, but I am really torn between the two now. Heart undoubtedbly says D3, but head firmly says Landcruiser.
Any (objective if possible) comments would be useful...

My heart goes out to you. I know exactly what you mean!! Not allowed to talk negative on here so will be quick. I understand that all systems are linked by fibre optic. Apparently LED driven with an average life 7 years - What doe this mean down the line?? I can't remember who told me off (warned me quietly) about being negative (I thought I was exercising my right to free opinion).
Well to prove that I am being POSITIVE I would buy one before Toyota 9 times out of 10.

My company runs three D3's, mine is the highest mileage admittedly.
Also used for towing a three tonne exibition trailer this it does admirably.
The main problem has been that the dealer keeps no spare parts, so that when it goes wrong at least two visits are required.
Don't get me wrong it's a great drive, good at towing and reasonably economical.
The whole thing is utterly ruined by the dealers. Disco 3 on order

disco... i wouldnt say im pro D3 without reservation, however I own one and dspite all the problems and I have been tested further than most, i still love the vehicle. I and many post on here, and many of us have differing views. maybe youre too sensitive to opposing views.
DickyH ... I know where youre coming from. maybe youre best off going for the landcruiser, although maybe youd be best placed waiting for the 2007 D3 model... its a 'releaseII', and will have had the majority of the 'bugs' ironed out. then again, you could save a few £s and get a people carrier.. just you wont have the same confidence you get from driving the D3. I hope you will test drive both before making your choice....good luck whatever you choose. 2004 TDV6 HSE Auto Zambezi Silver

Which is the question I asked you. My D3 has had problems but I have an excellent dealer, so the problems are not really my problems they are problems for Land Rover and my dealer. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
