5G router setup and data sim
Hi all,
Getting really fed up of rubbish wifi on caravan sites.
Does anybody have a recommendation on a 12v 5G router setup with external aerial also I know it's been asked before but some time ago what's the best unlimited data sim deal at the moment.
Cheers in advance.

Do you need 5G? Will 4G be sufficient?

I suppose to be honest 4G would be sufficient as what Site we are likely to visit will have 5G anyway was just thinking of future proofing the system.
New to us caravan on the way so looking at permanent mount solutions.

We use 4g at home, no landline or broadband, and generally get 50 meg connection speed. As we also do all tv through 4g we typically use 30gb of data a day so if you’re planning to do that in the van you’ll need unlimited data. Usually a few “new customer” offers around for unlimited data, like this Lebara offer of £12.50 a month (half price) for 3 months. https://mobile.lebara.com/gb/en/unlimited-25 To avoid full price just kill it just before the end of the offer and get a new sim, “new customer” just means a different email address.

Just bought a double data Vodafone SIM for the very purpose.
The interesting issue at the moment is registering the SIM as this needs to go into the phone so I will need to call them to see if this can be done online.
I will use it at my Father's place to replace his current 4G setup during Probate and then move it across to a mobile router for my Camper.
Bought mine from AO (Mobile section) for £10 a month = 40gb - 12months contract with a £50 AO voucher as a thank you after 45days. (Currently with Vodafone for my mobile so I know the signal is good at my Dad's place)

Also found that I couldn’t activate a Lebara sim (on Vodafone network) by bunging in the router, like in the past, have to put it in an old iPhone to get it activated.

5G modems still seem to be quite expensive. 4G mobile routers are much cheaper. I use a TP-Link one and it's been fab. I did think about 5G but coverage still too patchy to make it worthwhile. My plan was to buy a cheap 5G capable phone and use that as a WiFI hotspot - but...still too patchy in the places I tend to go.D1 300Tdi - gone
D2 Td5 ES (Alive remapped...mmm) - sadly gone
D4 2012 SDV6 XS - Stolen
D4 2014 SDV6 HSE - Shiny

Hi,
We use the WhoAreWe 4G data dongles/access points - can run/charge from a usb cable.
They give good range and about 20MB up and down and O2 and EE networks, given good connection.....
Cheap and cheerful...... and turn on your VPN if you are worried about your data being routed/monitored by China.
Thanks

Or if you want really good internet get a Starlink for RV setup - although there are a lot of people looking to buy them at the minute...Must stop buying shiny toys....
I'm asking for a friend to whom I'm going to loan my TP-Link M7650 600Mbps Wireless N 4G LTE Router for a few weeks.
If one orders a Lebra SIM does the 3 month term run from when you first use the SIM, or from when it's shipped.
Hope you are enjoying your trip.
Regards
Nigel
