If you buy the wrong amp you will have to buy twice!

Also the colour of the amp matters. (black or silver) get the correct one

Thanks all.

Amp currently with an electronics repairer to see if they can see an obvious fault. Will let you know if they find anything.

Well it has taken a while. I can confirm it was the amp.

However to fix it I took it to a local electronics shop (Nova in Sheffield).

They could not see anything obviously wrong with it but resoldered some of the joints inside.

I refitted it and it didn't work. Then I hard restarted the car (disconnected the battery live terminal for a bit and then reconnected it) and ever since the stereo has worked.

Total cost of fix - £10.

Thanks everyone for your help.

I have the same problem,

Is a second hand auctioned amp a simple plug and play or does it need to be recoded?

Thanks,

quote="Sea Raider"]Welcome

I had a problem with my audio when I first purchased the vehicle.
No audio, started off intermittent and gradually got worse.
I managed to borrow a head unit for test purposes and confirmed that the
problem persisted. Turns out the AMP was faulty, picked one up relatively cheaply
via the well known auction site and all has been good since then[/quote]

As far as I know they are just plug and play - they don't need to be recoded. You just need to do a like for like replacement.
