Air Suspension bag paranoia?

Driving home in the early hours of Sunday, just starting to slow down for motorway exit, we heard what is best described as popping noises. One loud, two quieter pops.

My deafness means I couldn't tell where the noise was from, other than rear offside -ish and, to me, outside the car so may not have even been my car ... but SWMBO and son thought it was right hand rear wheel arch.

There was no effect on handling, no feedback through the steering wheel, so nothing to suggest I'd hit anything.

There was an artic in Lane 1, a car in Lane 2 and another car ahead of me as I pulled into Lane 2 for my exit (Lane 1 is another exit just before my own) ... so it's possible one of those made the noise? No-one pulled over to hard shoulder.

I've changed to access height a couple of times since and it works fine. There is no sign of suspension dropping.

So ... whilst I'm fairly certain there is nothing to worry about or get fixed, the collective paranoia on here prompts me to ask ... is there something I'm overlooking that could explain it?

Slowing down can cause 'exhaust popping' on sports exhausts and the like.

It is quite possible one of the cars near you made the sound.

As I read your post the two points that stood out to me were 'slowing down' i.e. decelerating and the presence of other vehicles in the vicinity of the the popping noise.

We have a fun car, V8 with a sports exhaust and that's exactly how I'd describe the noise when we decelerate and use the engine to slow the vehicle (mainly because I like the noise!).

That's a distinct possibility I'd say..

Exhaust popping drives us nuts particularly on Saturday morning when all the London boys get there toys out to play.
Some Jaags apparently have a switch to turn the popping noise off/on. Whistle
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Just been out on an errand and cycled it through offroad ( the roads through Walkden are very rough ! Whistle ) and access height and there were no issues.

Stayed at offroad height for 20 odd minutes whilst parked too.
