I wonder if anyone on here can help please.
I’ve tried over on the FFRR Forum, but have just been told to look in a workshop manual, which doesn’t make sense at all.
And I’ve emailed Altox several times but they don’t appear to want to respond.
https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic68968.html
I’m seriously considering swapping my D4 for a 4.4TDV8 L405 FFRR in the next year, but don’t appear to be able to get anywhere with understanding the situation with regards to remote control of it’s FBH.
My D4 has timed FBH control as standard which I don't use, but I have an Altox unit plugged in which allows me full remote control via the App on my phone, with the added bonus of it also acting as a tracker etc.
As you guys on here know that's without starting the engine, using the FBH pump to circulate the coolant to preheat the engine without running the engine itself.
It's obviously really good for the engine not to start it from really cold in the morning, and it obviously means there is warm air from the vents immediately I get in it. It also defrosts the screen whilst it warms up.
Warming the car up on a cold morning whilst I eat my breakfast before going to work is a luxury I think I've got to used to now and would miss.
Does anyone on here know the answer? Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

I assume the 405 has a remote heater start like some D4
But this is without tracking.
It may also have an app like my jag to tell you where the car is, unlock it etc.

Thanks Guys
I think the Remote start offered from LR is an additional keyfob, so you have to be close.
The Altox in my D4 with SMS function is great when getting off a plane.
The car is warming up at the Pink Elephant whilst I'm on the bus from the terminal.
The tracking is an additional bonus really, the SMS control is the key factor for me.
I wasn't aware it was an Eberspacher.
Maybe there's an equivalent to an Altox from another company.
To be honest I'm a little surprised my post on the FFRR Forum got so few responses. Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

For me the FBH function is rather important, living in the climate that I do. So I symapthise with your concern. And I think that the FBH function is a bit neglected in the L405. Not only regarding the possibility to remotely operate it but I have also realized that the heater only warms the coolant circuit for the cabin and not the engine when the temperature is above -20C. There is a bypass valve that operates at that temperature and lower and only then supplies hot coolant to the engine. And warming up the engine is more important to me than the cabin.
I asked Patrick at GAP if it was possible to via the CCF set the bypass opening temperature to a higher level and also prolong the shut off time that seems to be set to 30 minutes fixed. He told me no.
So the FBH function is what it is, I presume. And better in my late D4 it seems. I only have the remote and the in dash timer to use and have to accept that I guess. FFRR 2015 SDV8

Thanks for that Dartanjang, although it really isn't good news, it's just the sort of thing I was after.
And presents a bit of a challenge.
Perhaps some mechanical intervention with the -20C valve could be achieved.
Does anyone, Moo??, know what the story is with the new defender and remote control of the FBH?
Same as the L405?
Or more flexible like a D3/4? Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.
