Sounds like you need what I've got!
Camper Vans can be too cramped and lacking in facilities and a real pain to work around.
Motor Homes can be too big, but they can have all the facilities of a Caravan, though they are very expensive.
So me ....... I've got a Camper Home.
It's a Mercedes Sprinter, long wheelbase, high top.
It's got a fixed bed in the rear, wardrobe, toilet/shower/sink, fitted kitchen with oven/hob/fridge etc, seating/ lounge/TV area to the front [which makes up as another bed].
Got blown air heating/ lights/sockets etc; windows/blinds/curtains.
Water electrically pumped through taps; onboard water tank plus waste tank.
Plumbed in gas/wired electrics 240v & 12v [with additional invertor & solar panel].
Got an awning which has full sides available to increase day/night use.
Oh and there's a separate storage area in the rear for outside tables/chairs etc, beer & sports kit etc.
And all this in the confines of a standard bodied lwb/ht van.
So it's not too big, it's light, so very nimble [fast]..... and didn't cost me too much!...... always on the road less travelled 🚧
< ‘tis but a mere scratch …….. it’ll polish out.

Mate of mine builds award winning compact campers and is at the moment developing a compact caravan.
Have a look at www.wheelhome.co.uk. It's got details of the campers and basic details of the caravan. I saw it a few weeks ago and it's very ingenious!!Today is the oldest you've been and the youngest you'll ever be again.

My California is great but it would be nice to have the bedroom/lounge/kitchen to leave on site while you explore in the Cali. Of course it can easily sleep four people in big beds but not much room left with all beds made so the Rockabilly would be great for me while kids sleep in the Cali.
