Thank goodness for finding your site. Went into panic mode with thoughts of thousands of pounds for a replacement box for 06 HSE. Fault found as explained on your site. Thread explaining procedure for replacement was excellent and looked easy to follow, However with the chance of possible damage to gearbox if heavy handed I decided to "squirt" pin and linkage with release oil. Touch wood, at least so far, Drive can now be positively engaged and confidence regained for motoring in general. Trust this "squirt" has remedied the fault and fixed it, albeit maybe temporarily. At least now having an understanding of the fault panic mode has subsided.
Really informative site but the more I read the more I listen and look for faults which may occur on this my first Disco. If I'd found your site prior to buying ____ ?????

next option will be the complete gear selector with new cable
option after that, control module in the gearbox or new box
from someone who has "been there, done it and MADE the t-shirt by hand"

I have suffered the same problem for the last couple of months, at one point wondered if it was a gearbox issue.
Anyhow, read through some of the posts on the forum and have just finished fitting the new parts as suggested.
Wow, what a difference, lt is so easy to select the gears now. I highly recommend you do the same if you have had this problem. At one point I was very wary of pulling out of junctions as I did not know if the car was going to move or just sit revving, well worth £13.00 from the stealers for the parts.
Lots of WD40 plus motaquip anti seize grease, job done !Thought as much !!

Like another post I too had a call from the wife yesterday and the thought of a very very expensive repair bill went through my head. Found this thread this morning and £7.76 bought me a new lever and bush. Sweet as a nut by lunchtime. Thank you!

Interesting link and comments about simply using WD40 (my friendly LR Dealer offered to do this, this morning) but the new lever has a soft metallic insert as opposed to the original one that contained a nylon insert. I decided that the improved lever and time saved trying to loosen and clean a very seized bush made £7 a no brainer.

Easy way to fix it is drop down the front of the gearbox guard & spray the linkage with spray grease. Easy peaty & did mine many moons ago & no problem again. Sorted.

Linkage gummed up This is under Gearbox cover underside. remove 6 screws and remove cover. Linkage easily accessed. See Article on this on this site on procedure to clean or replace. The lever has been modified with new type non corrosive Bush. £3:65. Gear shift lever like new, problem solved.

Have I got the same problem?
On my 2005 HSE I have started to get an intermittent problem. The best way to describe it is if I were driving a manual its like accelerating and engine racing because clutch is still depressed and then lifting clutch as drive kicks in. Are these the sort of symptoms that this thread has been discussing. It tends to happen at low speeds. If anyone has gearshift problems with their auto discovery 3 then read bobsere post which details the easy fix solution. My Discovery 3 auto is 2009 and had the same problem, when pulling away the engine raced as if in neutral and by moving selector from drive to neutral and back it would then pull away.
Looked up the problem here and armed with the part numbers on bobsere's post I went to my local garage, not Landrover. The Penn Motor Co in Penn Bucks, who are a great garage incidentally. Parts came to £14-76 with labour and VAT total cost £49.57, job took 30mins, problem solved.
Thanks bobsere, I am sure if I had taken my car back to Landrover I would be hundreds out of pocket.

Help!!
Im new to the forum but i was wondering could i have some advice please?
When i kick the throttle down hard, the vehicle has twice refused to change out of third. Ive changed to command shift, but to no avail. When i stop the dash reads, fault, gearbox has limited gears!
Ive had the vehicle plugged into, and no fault shows! Once you pull over, and switch the engine off, then restart, everything is fine........ I dont boot the disco very often, but every now and then you need to pass something.
Any ideas please???
