I'm off to Spain next week, touring the Pyrenees.
I don't want to load the car with with quantities of wine whilst en-route.
I do however want to load up in Bilbao before catching the ferry home to Portsmouth.
Can anyone please recommend a good, reasonably priced source of wines in Bilbao, with easy access & parking? It would be great if I could buy "other nations" wines, like Port, Bordeaux & Burgundy as well; but this isn't essential.

We sail back from Bilbao in August (29th) so would you please let me know any observations whilst you are coming back that way. In other words something I may need to know or a better way of doing something. I will be in my MG f so height restrictions wont be a problem. I would recommend night in Vitoria-Gasteiz if you get chance Good luck. The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;

Garry - that's what I thought, but it can't be true.
Mark - of course. We are not going to Vitoria-Gasteiz this time. But are in Haro at Los Agustinos and Hotel Calle Mayor in Logroño, each for a couple of nights.
A new destination which looks good is La Demba Art-Hotel in Abizanda:-

In really there is no reason why you can find a place to buy wines in Bilbao , since it is not a land of wines at all, if what you are looking for is a winery, then drive to the region of La Rioja or the Ribera del Duero, there you can find many wineries that even offer visitors, accommodation and shopping of course.. But in Bilbao, as much, you will be able to find some great supermarket in the outskirts of the city, type Alcampo and similar, where of course you can buy wine, and cheese or jam also you want. lost in translation!

Change your ferry crossing back to Santander, that has loads of dutyfree wine in the shop at the ferry. Bilbao has nothing at the ferry port! 2003 BMW M5- 5 Litres of V8 Optimax Slurping Goodness in Carbon Black

Vitoria is a little gem and so is Burgos try and get somewhere with parking as both are cities and premium rates to park overnight. Both lovely and vibrant cities. Palencia good too had a roadside stop 2/3* for €35 incl breakfast.
Plenty of supermarkets around, in my experience slightly better prices further from ports D3 2.7 Zermatt silver (not another one)

Like RatRunner in the end we used the Carrefour Hypermarket in Bilbao at:-
Carretera Baracaldo-Valle De Trapaga
Polígonono Ibarzaharra
48910 Sestao,
Closed on Sundays & open all other days from 9:30am to 9:30pm
A very large supermarket with good deals on a number of wines, but not a vast selection.
We also visited wineries in the Haro area.
We particularly liked the village of Laguardia and the Bodegas Carlos San Pedro under the village.

Great holiday.

We're off to Bilbao at the end of the month for a trip to the Pyrenees. However we're travelling back via Cherbourg so we're going to buy the odd bottle of wine on the way up through Spain/France.
We've got a D4 with Prospeed rack and there's only the two of us in the car. 1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8
