Can someone here help me. I see that Gorilla63 said that he is going to replace his engine and that LR have them in stock. My engine has gone kaput on my 2016 D4 and fortunately I have a LR extended warranty so the cost is being covered by the warranty but my problem is that the dealer has now had the car for nearly ten weeks. I chase them up once a fortnight but despite them constantly being in touch with the new 'Mercia' parts centre even the dealer doesn't know when my engine will arrive. My other problem is that the courtesy car, which is a quality car, does not have a tow hitch because of insurance problems, and as I tow a caravan obviously I cannot use my caravan and secondly for warranty reasons the service has to be carried out within a certain time either side of the purchase anniversary date or the warranty becomes void and with being unable to tow it is getting me a bit worried. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Sorry, I can't help with regard to the replacement engine, but can make a suggestion with regard to getting your Tintent to it's service.
A few years ago I too was in an insurance replacement vehicle with no towbar because my D3 was in for crash repairs.
I was in danger of losing the whole summer of boating because I couldn't tow my boat to the slipway and launch/recover it.
despite the cost I decided to base it at a marina for the summer where they would launch and recover it by tractor, but I had no way to move a heavy multi axle trailer from my storage yard to the marina.
I called a local company who I occasionally hire trailers from.
They deliver trailers all around the area and further afield with suitable vehicles, and were more than happy to help me out by collecting the boat/trailer and delivering it to the Marina.
I think it ended up as a cash deal, but it was better than not having the boat all summer.
Perhaps you have a local trailer hire company who'd do the same. Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

Thanks for that idea, at the moment I do have a little bit of time to play with re the servicing but just want to be prepared. I don't know how Landrover can't supply and engine to a main dealer and yet someone just coming in and getting one straight away works. I would get rid of it but for us it's the perfect car that ticks every box, other than the engines going pop.
Last year it had the cambelts changed by the main dealer - 7yo & 80k - and apparently what had caused the crank to snap was that the crankshaft toothed pulley wheel that drives the cambelt actually broke with the inner and outer separating, something I have never heard of happening so it had the same effect of the cam belt breaking.

Mine di that. Was probably 4 years ago now. I had a service (at a very reputable indy), next day I was driving home from work, and the crank snapped. Personally I dont think that it was anything to do with garage, but I have heard of quite a few that have done the same.

Interesting. The only thing different in mine was an oil change. Went with a brand I'd never heard of.

It's currently sat in my works car park, which is absolutely no use to you as I'm assuming you've quoted the wrong post with your question. Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.
