They contain the imboliser code. So you can’t just swap them

You can swap them and put the earlier dash program in the Bcm if you have gap lld Andrew

He has a gap tool so got that covered, will there be anything functionally different when the early cluster is fitted ?

There’s no “functionality” loss, the main issues are:
- As stated above, immobiliser codes are stored there so an accurate copy and dump of the old cluster needs to happen.
- The vehicle mileage is stored in the cluster, this can only be modified if the mileage in the replacement cluster is lower than the one being replaced, so car may inherit higher mileage.
- There’s the dry solder issue affecting cluster past a certain age so swapping out for an older one will increase the risk of failure.

2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

I know about the solder issue hence needing to replace the cluster, even if it lasts long enough so he can get his original repaired. The used cluster has less mileage not that its a real concern at this stage.

2005 vehicles dont normally suffer with cracked solder joints as they had lead based solder it was only in 2007 that Fords started using Lead free solder. Are you sure its the dash thats at fault a canbus fault in the vehicle can cause problems to show up on the dash Andrew

Just make a backup of the old ipak and restore it to the secondhand one.

It could be worth getting in touch with Patryk at www.totaltronics.com - if it's a fault with the cluster, chances are he can fix it for you.

I replaced my cluster with a lower mileage unit a few years ago. Even with lower mileage on the replacement cluster I couldnt update the ODO. Not sure if its changed but Pat from gap mentioned there was a bug that prevented the update once past a certain point - from memory I think it was 168,000km (I'm probably wrong with that figure but its the first one that popped into my head). Obvioulsy this info only relates to the Gap IID tool - other methods may be different. https://www.youtube.com/c/ShanesShed_yt

Having the same issue, as I’m looking for a repair service I can afford in the USA. Dose someone have a video link showing how to program a Replacement cluster using the gap tool?
As I do have one from another (unknown year lr3)
Visual learner so reading the manual for me is about useless.
