D3 handbrake module

Good morning all, I have a slight issue and need help (and therapy). I fitted a new hbm to my 2005 manual coil sprung discovery this weekend, slight problem, when I reconnected the fuse and switched on the ignition my dash lit up like a Christmas tree, hazard lights flashing, central locking locked and unlocked twice and the temp gauge up to max. Also E is displayed on the dash. There is no engine cranking. I have checked the wiring at the module multiplug and the multiplug by the passenger rear arch. I connected a voltmeter the to both green and yellow wires at the hbm plug and they read 13.5v but if i leave connected it drops to 11.5. New battery fitted too. I previously fitted a brake light switch prior to the module. My gap iid tool shows no faults but it no longer shows battery voltage. If I attempt to use my gap tool it comes up with operation failed. Can anybody please advise me as to what I can do.

The hazards and central locking are signs of High speed can bus being inoperable. The hand brake module is on this bus and can disturb it. I had a broken circuit board on mine that caused similar issues. To troubleshoot it's possible to bridge the HSCAN pins in the connector, then everything else should work.
The new module you fitted, where did it come from? Is it the correct part no for a D3?

Thank you for responding. I purchased a second hand module allegedly from a d3, the fault I had with that was both Amber and red p brake indication lights on the dash were on and the the handbrake wouldn't operate. So I then purchased a complete module with cables. The new module I got came from the uk (I believe). As far as I am aware it is the correct unit for a d3.
Do you know which pins on the plug that I should Bridge?

Thank you I will attempt the bypass at the next available opportunity. Something I did notice when I had faults shown on my gap tool it said that they occurred in the year 2025 and with a different mileage to the dash odometer, unless I am totally stupid and I read it wrong. I'm thinking it's had another ecu at some stage in its life. Am I right in saying that the clocks, ignition switch and ecu should be changed as a package?

I attempted to bridge the hscan, struggled to find small enough wire, so out of frustration I reconnected my old module and hey presto..no more flashing hazards and the engine cranks etc..
It would appear that the canbus is not sensing the new module. The fault I had previously was when I activate the handbrake it would go on, with the cog clutch noise then off again and the dash indicates the flashing red and amber p lights. That is why I assumed the module fault. Now I'm confused. I will contact the module supplier as i think there is a fault with the unit. Any recommendations?

I also contacted gap regarding the date issue on fault reading nd they stated some vehicles don't read correctly.

Still having issues, I removed the epb completely and then refitted. Success, the handbrake operated approx 8 times so I replaced the wheels and re booked the mot. Drove it down to the mot station and left it with them......he phoned to state that the amber and red handbrake light was on. Yes it failed again. I have tested all fuses, checked 12v feed at the plug, 12v ignition live etc..I am at my witsend. Any suggestions?
I have tried the original epb module a second hand module and a brand new Ebay special (that one wasn't even detected, E on dashboard flashing hazards etc) . If I pull the handbrake lever the motor starts to pull the cables then releases finally going to the horrific cog screeching. I adjusted the shoes as per the instructions, backing off by 1 full rotation etc.. but to no avail, apart from a gallon of petrol and a box of matches what can I do. Anyone please help

Hi Grumps did you manage to fix your EPB? I’m just starting down the road of trying to fix my EPB using the bible. Stage 1 EPB adjustment completed and its now worse than before.

Sadly not, I had the EPM repaired by a specialist, after installing I cleared the fault codes and pulled the lever. The handbrake applied then disengaged. The red light on the dash continues to flash and the amber light came back on. I have performed continuity on all of the wires from the EPB with no obvious issues. I have just ordered a new switch to try. I will update this feed as an when it is fitted.

Replaced the handbrake switch, still the same fault the handbrake goes on then off. The infernal red flashing p on the dash. Does anyone have any idea. Its been nearly 12months that this thing has been on my drive. I would like to drive it before it rots away. Help please

Pardon me, But I’m not entirely sure why you are not correcting the obvious first.

In one of the first threads you identify the battery have a voltage reading of > 13v. Not possible. Unless it was connected just moments ago to a charger. The resting voltage has not been attained yet.

Then it drops to 11…. Well, that is possible and it is a clear indication that the battery is done. Period. New or not.

The pinpoint tests in the workshop manual start with “attach a proper battery source”, for a reason.

It is “known issue” that insignificant voltage does not provide enough voltage to effectively power up many modules. The EPB being one of the first to be affected.

The pinpoint tests provide the most efficient path to sorting the root cause and applying the appropriate fix.

Get the electrical source in order, then immediately many of these faults will vanish.
Then deal with the remaining codes. If there are any.
