Ah well, at least I guessed right at 32k.
Like you say, it's still an 11 year old car, no matter the spec. And this time next year with £2 per liter...

Quite. The V8 had 6 speed, the SCV6 had 8 speed.
Funny how LR can't build an engine that doesn't have major issues. Although saying that I never had a single problem (other than a cracked thermostat housing) with my LR3 V8, which was probably the best LR3 or 4 or Disco 3 or 4 I've owned.
I have a last 1000 model 2016 LR4 Landmark with the V6 that's great, but I know I have to address the $2-3K stripdown of the engine to replace the two $40 front and rear coolant crossover pipes that rot out. For 6 months I've been toying with the idea of doing it myself vs paying an indy. Still haven't decided.
Potential chain tensioner issues on the supercharged. Looked at a few L322 adverts with work done @ ££££.

Three years ago I hired a RRS 5.0 V8 Supercharged. Not the one in all the bling (SVR) but the wolf in disguise the model below.
It was an epic machine and I ran over 2.5k miles all around Scotland in two weeks working and shooting.
Would I buy one? No way.. whilst I loved it (a lot) I reckoned it was costing 50p a mile in fuel and that was then.
Ok for smaller trips and maybe smaller commutes. Good luck to V8 ownership, we've an old V8 RS4 convertible which we love but fuel costs are as said above going to be the killer in due course.
Drive them whilst we can...Jim

Funny saw a thread regarding the issues , ref,
Failing temperature sensor(s)
Cracked plastic tubes in the cooling system - labour-intensive repair...
Cracked plastic thermostat housing
Failing water pump
Timing chain snapping
Must admit if I had the money would buy a V8 D4 , plus I wonder if anyone has converted one to an 8 x speed gearbox , alas don’t know what would be involved or programming
As a side note, saw a video regarding a BMW part that was less than a fiver that involved most of the engine coming apart
Wonder how the 4.4 V8 jag engine compares on the D3

Generally, the 4.4 liter petrol V8 is rated as a reliable engine. The US Land Rover forums (for example landroverforums.com) like the engine quite a lot.
The timing chains and things around them are good. No set interval in when to change, many seem to drive them until scrapping with originals on. Generally 400-500k km is thought to be good before even thinking of worrying about them. Water pump is good.
Spark plugs have a long service interval (144k km or so) as do the two auxiliary belts (officially 240k km, 3rd party recommendation is around 168k km).
Cooling system. Where to start…. A bigger issue is getting the air out when playing around with things that require changing/adding coolant. I think the best way would be to vacuum fill it. The bleed screw on the expansion tank is rather useless and the plastic t-piece on top of the engine (another bleed screw) is very useless. Also it has a tendency to get brittle and break. Thermostat housing is plastic just as on diesels and tends to get brittle and leak.
Again, using quality parts and changing oil regularly (10-12k km interval..) probably has something to do with it.
I think most issues come down to not maintaining or managing to overheat the engine and it’s a goner after that.
Maintenance wise most things are quite accessible.
I’m very happy with mine.

Hi kajtzu
Many thks and indeed later on I’ll more than likely get a V8 , don’t do many miles plus have noticed many complaints regarding the engine when certain LPG systems are added, seriously messing the engine up
Personally I would like to get one that hasn’t been messed around with , Regarding cooling system it sounds like when I useto work on central heating systems that had air locks , lol
That’s some serious mileage in what there capable of, think another 2-3 years I’ll seriously have to consider a replacement as mine is now 16 x years old , will have to be an auto as can’t drive a manual any more because I can’t push the clutch down ) , would be happy if I got one that had around 100,000 on the clock
Bless u for the link , I’ll check that out
Thks again for the fantastic Information and very grateful
