| D4 Defender - Insurance and Tracker required |

Hi all,
My current insurance company are asking me to install a Tracker to my new D4 so that they will cover it if stolen.....
Anyone else being asked to install Trackers?
Seems a bit excessive for a not new car.......
Anyone want to recommend a tracker?

We've had our household cars insured with LV for many years but when I bought a new D4 last August they were unable to provide cover for theft without a Tracker fitted. I took my insurance business elsewhere as you can get fully comprehensive cover for a D4 with standard manufacturer security features with other companies. I also got full comprehensive cover on an equivalent basis for £200 less than LV quoted for cover without theft protection.
Many years ago LV were unable to quote on a new Golf GTI without a tracker. We had a Seat insured with VW Insurance as well, so swapped manufacturer standard GTI onto that policy and moved Seat onto LV policy. A couple of years later LV insured the GTI as it was.
I'll ask LV for a quote when I come to renew to see if their criteria have changed.

LRI would only insure you with a tracker if the motor was £50K+

Yes, this LV.
Asking for a tracker, plus £200 for 6 months increment, plus £250 additional voluntary excess.......
For moving from a 07 plate D3 (which they have insured from new) to a 66 plate D4 .......
All a bit mad.......

Had the same issue myself with LV, wasn't the cheapest either. Admiral didn't require a Tracker and were half the price, Aegis via Aplan did not, nor do Direct Line.

I asked about trackers and no discount on my insurance for getting one fitted.
None for the OBD port protection either ... and they said it wouldn't put insurance up either. so good of them. 
However ... a tracker is on the plan. .

Didn't read the conditions of a policy I had with Tesco's on a Merc I had in 2002 - conditional on having a Tracker as value in excess of £25K - never had one fitted - unknowingly effectively uninsured for theft for nearly 3 years

I'm with Churchill, on my MY2015 D4 they insisted it needed a tracker fitting or they wouldn't insure it for theft, when I replaced it with the MY2016 Landmark they said it didn't need a tracker fitted! I'm sure they make up half of this  as they go along  Cheers Ian

It does seem to be a bit of a lottery as to what the renewal penalties are. Going back a bit but why would a 2008 Golf GTI need a tracker when first registered but not a couple of years later when a Honda S2000 didn't.
The D4 has manufacturer security measures in line with other manufacturers.
