England 2005 Discovery 3 4.4 V8 HSE Auto Bonatti GreyDiscovery 3

On a long open-road run, eg to our house in France so car loaded, I get 21-22mpg. That's averaging around 70 mph on motorways.

Around town it drops to 18mpg, even less if I use the poke to nip ahead of the pack.

My mates with diesels get 28-30 on a run.

Petrol is cheaper than diesel, though I've noticed I get 1-2 mpg more using Shell V-Max 98 octane. I was more sceptical than most but it definitely happens. Unfortunately the 6-7% extra cost of V-Max results in 2-3% mpg improvement so it ain't worth it.

I wouldn't swap the V8 for a diesel. It costs a bit more to run but I love it!

In the 14 000km that I have owned the D3 V8 SE I am averaging 18l/100km.
This includes a 2.2m frontrunner windcheetah rack, long range tank and 265/60/18 BFG ATs.
most of my driving is a mix of city commuting and freeway driving.
On longer open road trips cruising at 120kmh loaded up with camping stuff and mtb bikes etc I get in the 15l/100km area.
Love the V8 after my diesel D1 and D2. I tend to drive around with the windows open just so I can hear the engine better.

DiscoJ. The BFG's are bigger (circumference) than the standard tyre, so your indicated economy is actually worse than your actual economy. My D3 with the same BFG's averaged 15,5 l/km and was 14,5 l/km before I changed to the bigger BFG's.

My D4 5,0 l V8 now averages 13,4 l/km Very Happy
