Thanks for the positive FB, Kitetraveller - glad it worked!
To followup on longevity of my fix (albeit with a non oem part) - it's lasted 3 years & 2 months - I got a 'tired' (slow) actuator symptom last week, so took apart the lower tailgate trims after it <just> managed to open (so I didn't get stuck again!).
Ordered a 'new' part as above today, to do the fix again - in my mind (for the sake of £8.50 and 3 years) it's a hack worth doing.
