Day trip to Hampton State Forest - Saturday 15 August |
|
Hi Folks,
At the last couple of pub lunches, we have been kicking around the idea of having a day trip from Sydney. A few of us have decided the best choice would be Hampton State Forest.
Hampton is about a 2 hour trip from Parramatta, so if we plan to arrive Saturday morning - we could have a full day playing in the hills. It would then give people the option of heading home, or staying at the Hampton Halfway Hotel Motel (http://www.halfwayhotel.com/).
I heard from WayneD that there are some steep, rocky hills in Hampton SF. HT tyres may be a liability, and recovery may need to be considered if the weather turns nasty. Sounds like fun!
---------------
OK troops! Here is the list:
Definite
jonesy63
WayneD
Mr Andrew
Rob Hollonds
~Rich~ + Toyota
Baggy
Zilch
Possible
CaverD3
---------------
THE PLAN!
The plan is to meet at 9am - at the Mount Victoria Caltex, which is on the right hand side after the heavy vehicle inspection (when coming from Sydney). We can have a coffee/tea and breakfast there - so we don't have to stop for morning tea.
WayneD kindly provided a trek which was previously run by the RROC, so we will follow that. I guess Wayne will be in the lead, as he has the GPS with the map on it! I have 3 extra UHF hand-helds I can lend, in case anyone needs one.
A couple of us have piked out of camping and booked to stay at the Hampton pub!
We should finish by about 4pm, so plenty of time to drive back home if you don't want to camp or be corrupted!
Cheers,
Rob
Edited list - moved Rob Hollonds; added friend's cars; removed aukre; moved ~Rich~ + Toyota; added Baggy, removed Pajero; changed plans to stay at pub; and added Zilch.

Cheers Rob!
WayneD is going to jump in when he has the details for the trek, and also knows where to camp. I'm happy to camp as well - as long as I pack my thermals and put on a "beer blanket"!

I used to mix 50/50 Stones Green Ginger Wine with VB. Tastes just like homemade ginger beer but pow what a kick. Warming too. Did you think I would leave you crying,
When there's room in my D3 for 7,
Climb in here Joe we'll soon be flying,
I can go just as fast with 7.

When I was younger we used to call it "Green Steam"
It's good in beer too! Take a swig of a fresh stubby then throw in a slurp of Green Steam - you won't feel the cold....or your legs
Of course you should enjoy it in moderation. I always drink in moderation - moderated by the amount put into a bottle... 2012 MY13 SDV6 SE D4 Ipanema Sand with Almond leather
2012 TDI Passat - they reckon the DSG is crap, I reckon it's awesome
2010 MY11 Mitsubishi Challenger - Gone (it was a "Challenging Year")
2007 MY08 TDV6 SE - gone

Camped in the Blue Mountains this time last year when we did Jenolan SF and had inch and half of rain. Let me tell you it was pretty cold.
All others slept in vehicles, but I had a tent and was swimming by 5 in the morning.
Late August did the Hampton run stayed in the pub at Rydal. Very wet again, but this time on the inside via too many schooners.
Cost $55 for Bed and breakfast. But they only have about 4 rooms.
Think I will be O/S late August so Im in for the 15th. I have recovery gear, including hand winch so we are covered in that area. Take the road less traveled.
