I"ve driven about 5,000kms with rods shortened 10mm. Once when pulling a trailer tent about 1 hr on bitumen I stopped and for some reason the transmission wouldn't get out of park (me thinks some type of wind-up). Eventually it went into gear, I aimed for some gravel and it clearly unwound. Otherwise no problems. Seals and u-joints are ok so far. Key point is to drive the D3 like it is an old Landcruiser (unstable, dodgy suspension) and it handles appropriately. Rods are easy to change by driving diagonally opposite tyres on to a log. The other two tyres dangle in hyper-extend mode, then I turn off engine, remove key, use a jackstand or log to prevent some kind of lethal discofart event and change the rods. I can't imagine anything more complex is worth the time or cost. With the shortened rods, hyper-extend mode is pretty amazing but there is no suspension left. I have a system that works for remotly shortening rods but ironing out a few final niggles. Developement has not been smooth sailing but I have fitted the system and it works well.............switch on goes up switch off goes down. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Definatley following the "remote" development with interest caverD3. Be sure to keep us all advised when we get to "production". Any thoughts on costs at this stage? <*(((<<

Don't know the final costings yet. Unfortunately looking about a grand.
Needs a full test to ensure it is robust enough though.
It's been areal pain as s soon as you deal with one issue another rears it's ugly head. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
