Disco 3 reversing camera & sat Nav options

Evening all, spent most of the day reading up on the options for our new family 2008 disco3 HSE

From what I’ve read there are 2 options for a reversing camera which utilise the existing screen

1. Keep existing screen, carry out RR mod and install camera ( with this particular method, how does the camera communicate with the screen? Am I right in understanding a modified loom from Wiggs can be obtained to plug in for an optic cable? Ah and an NVID unit required?

2. Install early disco 4 screen and similar to the above?

Which option is more cost effective, I read posts dating back years old so imagine things have changed over time?

Appreciate any feedback in advance

1. A generic cable is used with a fakra to rca in the end.
Disadvantages. Not all the picture is displayed. Screen brightness is low. Kit available to fix.

2. A generic cable back to front and then an expensive adaptor on the end.
Display is stuck on max brightness

I like option 2 especially if you want to use the navigation

Thanks for the response. So for option 2.. what’s the expensive part as I liked the idea of having more up to date sat Nav? Thank you

I run option one at the minute
RR mod
Camera from Amazon
Fakra cable from club shop
Edit CCF with iid or similar
Brightness mod from Panoramix
Works well and cheap

Ok starting to make more sense now, surely there’s Uk options of the above cable you’ve mentioned?

Or a splice option for the rca?

Thanks, do you own an IID then? I have diagnostics equipment, an autel 908 which is a good bit of kit but not sure if it can code the above Confused

Do you have a link for the mod from Panoramix or just contact him direct? I’ve read so many posts on all this and guides but just want to have it clear in my head and hopefully help out anyone else reading this thread in the future. Thanks

Both option 1 and 2 require ccf edit.

Option 2 is gap iid only (they are £500 ) for the camera to work.

The brightness mod for option 1 is in the post below yours

Yes I got hold of Panoramix direct on fb and he said he doesn’t offer it any more.

So ultimately leaves me with option 2.

Early Disco 4 screen
The above fakra cable
eBay/amazon camera

All the above is reasonably priced

The most expensive cost is the coding from the IID Tool which I’m trying to research to see if there’s someone local that can do it for me because I can’t justify £300+ for the luxury of a rear camera

TBH, owning an IID, will save you lots and lots of money during the owner ship of a LR.
If you can do some Spanner things yourself ofcourse.. really.....i think it will..

They look expensive, but are a sort of investment... you will get (most of ) the money back if you sell it...

It is not just CCF work, it can and does a lot more... have e read on the IID site..

Otherwise you have to go to an indie with the right equipment or the dealer... both need to be paid for everytime they plug it in....

Early D4 screen is quite a good option... i did it, and have no regrets...
i did maintain the original surround (with buttons) for the easiest fitting

I don’t disagree but I have an expensive diagnostic machine which I use on other vehicles which cab interrogate all modules so I’d need a gap IID purely for the coding which stings a bit for the sake of the reversing camera luxury. Laughing

Reversing cam

Hi, I have a camera plugged into my standard D3 screen and access is via the hidden menu, this suits me well at the moment for towing I am doing. Yesterday I noticed the picture was fine as usual until I opened the drivers door !! at which point the screen went mad/ fuzzy, when I close the door it appears to re-set itself and back to a clear picture again. It did not used to act like this, anyone got an idea what might cause this ?

Regards Dave.
