Just completed this modification today today, my D3 sat nav unit was toast, and the cost of updating was actually cheaper than replacing the D3 unit and got the benefit of newer maps. Also left a space under the seat, so fitted the UHF/VHF radio base unit under the seat

Thanks to Galvernised nuts for the guide and Pete K for advise

Simple and easy to do although a little daunting, but read the guide a few times prior, and things went smoothly, glad you mentioned about the Range Rover logo.

Does anyone have a code for the plug (reversing camera) and connector pins, so I can complete the installation

Greetings one and all!

It's been a long time since I posted on this site, but replacing the D3 SatNav with a D4 system is exactly what I need to do to my 57 Reg HSE. However, I don't have the ability to do it myself, so could someone please recommend a member / company who I could pay to do this? I am in Surrey.

Thanks in advance.

All the best.......BFP

Heads up for anyone after the plugs. The 6 pin reversing camera plug is a Molex 30700 range

Molex 30700-1060 Plug Receptacle. 6 pin
The Female Terminals are TE CONNECTIVITY / AMP 1393366-1

I think the Same range is for the 14 pin plug as well Molex 30700-1147

Farnell have the receptacles for a couple of £ but only sell the terminals by the 5000... but I have found the terminals on ebay for £4 for 10.

Just FYI...Smile

Reversing Camera

Hi All,

Wiring up the reversing camera.

So got the 6 pin grey plug which I know you run the signal and ground wire to, however is one of the pins a +VE feed that I can link up to the camera or should I take this from the reversing lights ? My camera has come with a cable that has the option of running the +VE all the way along the cable to the front so I can have either option.

Thanks.

Chris.

The 6 pin does not have power. All video input

Don’t connect to reverse lights. That won’t work best (the camera input stays active for 10 seconds while parking - if the camera has no power, screen will be blank)

One of the wires on the other plug can be used BLUE or the rear of cigar lighter

I recommend you run it thru a 1 or 2 amp fuse

or the blue wire an the antenna amps can be used.

OK Pete, So the camera should be wired up to an ignition +VE so the camera will always be on when the car is running although won't display until reverse is selected....?

I finally got around to fitting the RRS unit I picked up a few months ago thanks to Pete K seeing it on ebay.
As I like tinkering and things to be as 'plug and play' as possible, I got hold of some plugs/sockets that accommodate OE ones and made up a couple of connector looms, so I didn't have to mess around with removing pins from existing plugs or splicing wires etc..
I even got a MOST extension cable to save strain on the original D3 screen cable. It tucks away nice on top of the stereo and gives more room to play with during installation.
The info from others has been invaluable to do the mods, and modifications evolve as availability of parts gets better.

Yes Pete K, the Fakra is for the TV and the RCA connector is for the rear view camera.
I couldn't believe the difference in picture quality and I can get a good view of the towball as well as behind the Disco. Thumbs Up
The only problem I've had, is not getting any voice directions on the satnav, but the GPS is working and follows me. I've checked the connection to the ABS wire and got good continuity from the DVD plug upto the D4 display unit. I know the maps are going to be out of date, and I use TomTom on my phone, I just like things to work if they're meant to. Laughing

The picture quality is better than what ?

Regarding nav. Try turning up the volume when it’s meant to be speaking.
May need to press repeat command first

You can go into the diagnostics screen and see the speed.
One from abs. One gps calculated.

The picture from the camera and TV compared to the D3 screen is much better quality.

If I press the speaker button on the Nav screen after putting in a destination I get the voice message 'please refer to the map' at a good volume, so it has voice, but I will try what you suggested.

I had a check on the ABS sensors yesterday via GAP and all reading ok. The D3 nav worked fine too before.
