Discovery 465 radio/cd no sound |
|
Hi I've just got a discovery 3, and It needs a few bits doing to it.
The radio powers on and all the buttons work but bizzarly the volume button doesn't work when you turn it the volume doesn't show up on the screen and there is no sound out of the speakers. It also has the harmon karadon speakers/amp.
Any help would be appreciated

Welcome
1st thing to try is a hard reset, details of how to are in the wiki above.
When I had your symptoms it was a faulty amp under the drivers seat bought a 2nd hand one and all good

Would a faulty amp cause the radio volume button to not work. Normally when you turn it you would get the numbers going up as it gets louder, but there is none of that. How do I check the amp is faulty? Does it have a fuse?

I have tried the hard reset and it is still the same, is it the radio that is faulty or the amp? I dont want to get one if the other is at fault.
Would there be any faults stored for this problem ?

Welcome!
Every unit on the MOST loop is suspect….
If the MOST loop (orange glasfiber “wiring”) is interrupted somewhere through a faulty unit or a unit with a blown fuse …. Radio doesn’t produce sound….
Use the search function for fuse numbers and location and MOST bus…
If you have an IID you can see “something” but faultcode’s on the MOST bus can be tricky to pin point.. Best regards

ok thanks,
I will look at the fuses tomorrow, I understand that if there is a fault along the line of the MOST loop eg amp there will be no sound, but would this affect the volume dial as when I turn it you don't get vol number like you should, there is nothing, but it does turn the radio on and off.... and all the other buttons work. Its hard to explain sorry

With a 465 Head unit it's probably got sets of buttons on the steering wheel.
They are not just simple buttons making an on off connection but work on a Resistive network, altering the resistance of the circuit which the head unit reads then decides what you want it to do.
As you can imagine any issues with one of the buttons can confuse the hell out of the head unit.
To disconnect them to see if that's the issue you'll need to release the Airbag and remove the wheel.
And that depends on your confidence in mucking about with the Airbag.
I had all sorts of issues with my D3 HSE system, made a hook from a coat hanger to release the airbag and got very good at removing and replacing it. Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

MOST bus is not just sound… forget what you know regarding copper wiring… regarding MOST bus
So, as said… if interrupted, all sorts of mallfunction… and functions not comming up..
Blown fuse of amp/Bluetooth/TMC unit is rather common though (easy to blow that fuse) its behind the glove box…. Fuse numbering is in the car user manual in that glovebox (normally)
Fuse 15 comes to mind, but check that first please.. Best regards

please, do a search on this site: fill in: MOST and you will find numerous topics regarding MOST bus
check on each MOST connected device if there is a red light on the cable.. if one not... there is your probelem
otherwise it IS what it IS and you have to exchange certain items one by one... like Searider said, start with the amp..... Best regards

When the head unit is on there is no red light to the amp under the seat from the MOST cable, does that point to the head unit? I am trying at attach a video to show the problem

Interesting.
You should get inside and lock the car. Keep and eye on the headunit till it goes off. Say still and wait.
Then press the fob unlock button and quickly look at the optic. Is it red now ? If not then the problem is not the amp
It could be other things though:
bluetooth
LCD nav display
the orange optical pipes

Are you sure it doesn’t have a phone system?
Does it have red and green buttons on the side of the steering wheel.
I thought that’s why hiline systems were fitted to base models
