ISTR on D3 if anything is plugged into the earphone sockets in the rear the sound from main speakers is silenced, there was at one time a mod for some reason to plug a dummy plug into the rear centre sound outlet can’t remember what for, long shot but worth checking. Thumbs Up

No buttons on the steering wheel for phone and when you press the phone icon on the radio it says no phone

Plug the amp back in.

Now check at the rear of the head unit to see if any red light

Hi, sorry for the late reply. So I've took the radio out and there is no light from the amp on the MOST but when you plug it in at the radio it lights up at the amp side but only on one cable. Will a faulty amp stop my volume knob from working? As when you turn it you don't get the volume up or down on the display and when you select bass, trebble etc they don't adjust also. I am unsure where to go from here?

You keep asking around in circles tbh..

If the MOST bus is interrupted somewhere, amp, phone, TMC unit, everything else on the MOST bus, functions stop… so also volume on the radio panel… yes… that is normal practice then…

So radio puts out a MOST signal… now you have to look at the other devices on the MOST loop.. till you have found the one malfunctioning…

Some other MOST bus devices are behind the right rear panel in the boot…. If you have the full options or some options installed…. Check them all to be sure
 Best regards

Hi, sorry for the late reply. So I've took the radio out and there is no light from the amp on the MOST but when you plug it in at the radio it lights up at the amp side but only on one cable.

I think that sounds ok.

Will a faulty amp stop my volume knob from working? As when you turn it you don't get the volume up or down on the display and when you select bass, trebble etc they don't adjust also.

That is a typical symptom of a failure of the MOST communication. Just need to understand why there is a MOST problem

Regarding the two optical tubes. One is IN and one is OUT. So when you unplug something, it is normal to only see one red light.

As said, the high end models with have 2 units in the rear right of the boot.
A traffic unit TMC
A phone unit

I suspect yours doesn't have these, but its worth ruling it out.
Phone units are problematic.

You can also disconnect the optical cables, and shine a white torch into one end, and then look for a white light at the other end. This proves the orange optics are ok and rules one thing out

Motolab, thanks.

I know I keep going round in circles sorry. I have no Bluetooth or sat nav/touchscreen display.so from the amp does it go to the tmc in the boot then back to the radio?

Once again sorry for sounding thick

TMC units are usually fitted to cars with navigation and HSE badge

But rip the rear right boot trim back and check

OK will have a look in the back. If there is no tmc or bluetooth in the boot is it just a loop from the head unit and amp?
