I've seen many references that when connecting charger or jump-leads to a D4 (or most modern cars) you should connect to chassis or engine earth rather than battery negative.
But when I look under the bonnet, the only bare metal I can see is the FBH ... possibly not the best place to connect too if it's hot.
Looking just behind FBH, there are two earth points (only 1 used by look of it) but it would be awkward to clip jump-leads to either/both of them.
I'm thinking I'll get a thickish piece of copper and attach it on these two earth points ( look like 6mm bolts ) and have enough of it sticking upwards that jump-leads can clip on.
Is there anything wrong with this idea ? or is there a better place I've not spotted ?.
Dean

The manual appears to suggest connecting the negative to the suspension strut mount bolts.
I've been outside between showers and had another look.
solution is going to be something - possibly a stainless bolt flattened on one side - bolted to the FBH frame. Everything else I tried to fit to those bolts didn't help with the accessibility issue.
I'll post (pun ?) piccies when I get round to this … which will have to be soon as the youngster's Punto has needed jump starting a few times in the last couple of months.

I haven't looked but if you take the cover off the engine I would think there a bare bolt or similar underneath

Surely any bolt head screwed into the body will do. I use one right near the battery case. It's got paint on it, but I still get a good earth allowing me to charge.Gary
