Hello Pete!
Do you have news about EGR blanking on Discovery 4 with 3.0L engine?

I had the EGR off my D4 this week to replace the coolant housing. I was shocked at the filth in the EGR chamber, manifold inlets etc. I cleaned everything out except the exhaust gas recirculation pipes. They were both almost completely blocked and so I reckoned the more blocked the better. The whole EGR strategy is fundamentally flawed: supposedly to improve emissions, it can only reduce the performance of the vehicle and use more fuel and/or make emissions worse in the long run.
I have blanked both EGRs on my two freelanders and use a dash of 2-stroke oil in the diesel in the tenuous hope that a higher operating temp may burn off some of the crap that has no doubt accumulated, but I expect only a Terraclean would do that properly. Both have cleared MOT emissions tests easily since blanking.

I am now reliably seeing 8 litres/100 km post partial blanking, which is over 30mpg
