Excess Smoke and Poss misfire on start up
I've been noticing a fair bit of blue smoke on start up so much so that i can smell it in the car.
The engine also seems to judder or misfire and then clears itself after then its fine no smoke.
Any idea's chaps - hope its not the signs of a turbo.

Although i do have my suspicions becuase its pretty sluggish for the first 5 mins like one of the turbo's aint kicking in plus ive read on the forum about turbo's dying but thought they were smoking when under load.

Been in Dock for Cold start test - had all diagnostic tests and compared to a Disco of similar year.
No fault found LOL
So in this day and age of strict emissions its acceptable for a 10 plate Disco to chuck out a big plume of smoke on start up - i think not.
Will post a vid and link of smoke when i get chance
I'm at a crossroads at the moment - i'm worried about the the cost of repairs once its out of warranty next year and judging by the number of Land Rover assist call outs with other faults i've had and maybe a potential turbo problem i think i may just get shut and buy an X5.
Or may wisk it over to Steve Parker Land Rover (who are very good) for an independant report.
I sell parts for HGV's for a living and after consulting my Turbo supplier for advice he told me the initial signs of a turbo going is "smoke on start up" - leading to heavy smoke on start and under load.
But he also said the machines and diagnostic equipement used at the dealers it pretty good at fault finding.

Mine is the same - if I do a double start (ignition on / of / on) - no problem - which makes me think its fuel / plug related - definate diesel smell / whitesmoke.
Will only smoke at other times when I (really) boot it down - normal acceleration is fine
Dealer (williams) could find no issue.

Yep same here Adam - i only get this on start up then its gone.
Just collected now from Stratstone who to be fair did a thorough test and checked it all out.
Checked the intercooler pipes and exhaust for oil - nothing to suggest turbo probs, but they did say on the cold start test the smoke is more white than blue, but compared to other Disco 4's they ahd available its the same.
Anyway looks like i'll have to keep my eye on it or maybe wait for things to develop. 2007 RS4 Avant

Have they looked at the glow plugs?? me dose the same (lots of blue/white smoke + mine wont rev up for first 10 sec) and I am sure its the plugs at fault.JE Remap, De-cat, Blanked EGR's, Allisport intercooler, Samco intercooler hoses, D4 rear lights, A bar, Big spot lights, Front headlight guards, 20'' Stormer wheels,

Still not happy - sending back in again, Smoking Still + ive noticed a drop in oil levels over 1000miles
I've been monitoring it on every start and the temperature makes no difference whatsovever - so adding more fuel because its cold is rubbish - White smoke my !!
I've also checked every start and even had a Scania technician give his opinon on start up and it is definatly Blue Smoke which along with a misfire clears after a few minutes.
I've checked the car fully loaded on the motorway with roof box, 7 passengers and 4 bikes on the back and hardly any smoke - so normal day to day driving its fine.2007 RS4 Avant

Turbo issue; pipe between the two turbos gets oil in it which would explain the blue smoke. Dealer should know of this issue and there has been a number of TSBs for it.
