Fault Code P0489-00 (6C) - RESOLVED
Management light came on and the car is feeling a bit slugish. Checked my codes and it looks like I have an EGR problem. A quick search shows there are not many occurences. I am presuming the problem will go away if I get the blanking kit fitted but I know my regular indy will favour replacing the valves. Has anyone used a company for blanking in the south east? I'm in Surrey.Just 'cause you got the power... that don't mean you got the right.

Some people may disagree, but in desperate times asked for desperate measures.
Not the very orthodox method but.... you can try to turn on the engine and, in Neutral, PUT YOUR FOOD DOWN... Make the revs to ~4000rpm (just below the red marks)
The reason is:
If your ERG is stuck open, the ECU turn off the EGR system (all valves should stay closed = 0%). When you press foot down, the pressure from the exhaust gas force the open valve close. You may even hear a "click" when the valve closes.
It worked for me more than once when my EGR stuck open, but of course, get the feeling of your engine and do it at your own risk.
If the EGR is too stuck, it may not work as well.

EML has stayed off but still have sluggish performance. I'm going to bite the bullet and blank the EGR's.
I know I need the patch for the ECU as it's a 2008 but my question is if you don't immediately install the update does the car work normally? Is the WAY up date only to extinguish the cash light?Just 'cause you got the power... that don't mean you got the right.

From my understanding the car runs ok without the patch you just get the light on, which fails MOT etc

I drove for over 4000 km (~6 months) with a coin as EGR blank. You will be fine with a proper blanking.
BUT... if your drive is sluggish and you do not have EML on... one of 2 things:
(1) maybe the issue might be elsewhere.
OR
(2) you can definitely blank it without patch.
ps.: the EML lights up after about 4 times you turn the engine on with a faulty EGR.

Forgot to say, if you have a code reader like iCarsoft, Autel, IIDTool, etc.. you may be able to read the realtime values of the EGRs, valves etc... check if the values are actually moving around.

Valve disconnected yesterday, drives slightly better than before but thats probably due to the removal of all the black gunk in the intake. Just got to get rid of the EML light now.Just 'cause you got the power... that don't mean you got the right.

I’ll conclude this thread by mentioning that the EGR delete ECU patch is a must. I ran the car fine for a couple of days without but then got into a cycle of limp mode re-starts until I got the patch added. All is well again now the job has been properly completed.Just 'cause you got the power... that don't mean you got the right.

@ClassikFan,
How did you install the patch?
Do you reckon I can do it using an Autel AP200?
I am planning to install the regular blanking kits from the market, keep the hoses in place and install the patch.
Just need to figure out how to install the patch now.Kleb

Hi Kleb
It was all done via GAP & the IIDTool. Not sure if the is a way with the Autel, sorry.
