first and last lr3

after 12 months and 5 suspension malfunctions (plus a few other problems) I decided to return my car to Land Rover manhattan and get a refund under the lemon law rule.

sad, I was excited about getting a land rover. dropped it off today.

To very few vehicles... most are more than happy with their rides... i have had no issues since Jan of this year.

Ferrino... get it exchanged for a new LR3 !

Yup, its costing me £2.5k to get a new (non faulting one) hopefully after a year here in the UK. Unfortunaltely our 'rejection' process only applies to cars under 6 months old.

My second car has just been handed back after 10 months for a cash refund, the first was left abroad broken and refunded in full.

6 months!!

Hi,

Wondering where you found the 6-month return rule. Searching the net, the general consensus seems to be that a car should be rejected "as soon as possible". Your right to return (assuming it was bought from a dealer) applies whether it was bought new or 2nd hand, but if 2nd hand then additional criteria are considered, such as condition/mileage at purchase.

Seems your rights apply for up to 6 years, although I'm sure any refund would decrease quite quickly after 6 moths.

Does anyone believe this not to be true, or can anyone confirm?

As I understand it, up to 6 months old a fault can be deemed to have been with the vehicle @ manufacture. As such the supplying manufacturer/supplying dealer can be forced to replace the vehicle with a like for like 'new' replacement after being given a reasonable time (usually 14 days written) to repair. After 6 months old it is only possible to force a supplier to (after the same written notice) replace with a vehicle of a similar age, value, and spec. Bear in mind I have done 10k miles on 11 months.

This info I have from my local trading standards, and can easily be confirmed by giving your local office a call.

Bear in mind also that I paid my own hard earned cash for the car, so I cannot use the consumer credit act and go to the finance company and quibble. Which would be easier than pushing my dealer & LR.
(It is also worth looking at the What Car? help pages on their site if you are after pro-former letters to write to a dealer principle.)

I had some suspension faults and then the compressor popped one night. I took it in and the local dealership did all the recall work (software, gas tank, etc.) and now I'm happy as a clam.

On the other hand, my 99 Disco1 has sprung a leak and it'll be at least one arm and half-a-leg to get that fixed.

I had experienced hundrends of suspension faults (almost daily basis), 2 new compressors, fuel tank, etc. and was that close to getting rid of mine, too. Luckily, I waited a little bit longer once I got wind of the software updates (about 4 months ago). Since then, not a single fault! I can once again enjoy my LR3!

For what it is worth, I thought I would mention here, that apparently not everyone is defective (knock on wood) I have never had a fault of any kind, since new, except for the low coolant issue (still defective), leaky sunroof (still leaky) and of course the junk tyres they ship on them, otherwise, I am happy really with the truck, and would suggest them. I guess it would be nice for LR to get these issues sorted for all the folks having trouble. I'm wondering, if it is some specific issue, ie: environment, production issue, or something else that is the cause of these issues.

Not that anyone is listening, but perhaps it would be beneficial for have LR ship themselves back a few of these defects and disect it until they can identify and correct the issue, rather than rely on local dealers to sort it out. I guess if I was the manufacter I would have already done so, and perhaps they actually have...

Hang in there with the faults, and hopefully someone will get this sorted.

Might come as a suprise, but not all dealers raise issues with LR, which is sometimes why it takes a while to identify the causal item and rectify the problem - all without disrupting production...
Glad you're as happy with yours as I am with mine though 8)
