My brother lives near Bundaburg and is now helping the SES clear up the mess. Mud everywhere and many businesses in ruins.
He lives on the cost further north and the whole sea is brown with debris and boats. Marina in Bundaburg destroyed and two huge fuel tanks missing. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Hi Guys,
I was leaving it to the "locals" to reply, but it looks like they may be otherwise engaged.
My sister, in Mackay, has been lucky, with the floods and a mini-cyclone largely missing the town, although the hinterland hasn't been so fortunate. My 86yo mother is staying with her for Christmas. I'm glad that there wasn't any emergency as I don't know how she would cope.
Not surprisingly, some of the electricity infrastructure has been affected, necessitating load-shedding, but they are sanguine about that.
I don't know from where Mackay gets its vehicle fuels, but my sister has, wisely, decided to fill up.
Rockhampton still has access from the north and this is expected to remain open.
Wishing those affected all the best,
Peter The Bearded Dragon

I live in Rocky, but lucky enough not to be effected with water from the flood.
We have been around and looked at the areas effected and some poor are going to do it tough as the water drops. The road to work is cut but they are chopering small crews into work each day. My turn starts this Sunday.
Some great pictures on the internet. No one will come through Rocky for a while. But so many other towns have way more problems than we do. Still getting supplies through from the North which helps a lot.
Zilch the Burnet highway did open in the last couple of days at Emerald so you may be able to get through worth checking.
Do plenty of research first. Do not take life too seriously no one gets out alive anyway!

Come join the rest of us poms in Oz my brother in law emigrated to Mackay 3 years ago from Dawlish, never looked back. I moved there with work, always loved the whitsunday region.. so my house is in Airlie, work in Sydney. Mackay has a relatively high number of expats, all miners from Yorkshire/Notts
90 thanks for that, i have been looking at going via Mackay, Emerald, Barcaldine, Tambo, Roma, Dalby, Toowoomba and then Brisbane, but was concerned about being able to refuel/get provisions on route as it is a 20 hour trip at least on a good run, so may leave it a few weeks and fly instead. I have been checking out the RACQ website for road conditions, any others you would recommend
Thanks

See Skootay,
It's getting so bad that you won't even have to learn the local lingo.
Best Wishes,
