It’s a shame he is getting big headed.

Would have been better if he had compared two v6 engines.

Christian and Vera need to stop these BS videos Censored

A lot of it is "in their opinion" after a few minutes research on Google.

Prime example is their recommendation of 5W40. Based on an oil pressure test after an oil change with 5W40. If they had changed it with 5W30, they would have seen an increase in pressure too

But they are happy to ignore thousands of hours and millions of pounds of lab testing, and people just lap it up Rolling Eyes

+1 Thumbs Up

People find is easyer to trust the “mailman” with passion regarding their vehicles than real specialist who work on and in them on a daily basis… because there is tendency to believe that professionals only lie and amateurs not…. I tend to believe that professionals (at least most of them) do also work with passion, back-upped with knowledge, training and a lot off experience .

But indeed, if you post it on social media, a lot of people want to believe it… parrots 🦜

Lab tests dating back to the origin of the TDV6, around 2004, which were mainly aimed at emissions constraints, which were becoming increasingly crazy to the obvious detriment of reliability.
And yet, no update when lubrication technologies progressed, nor when the DPF was added !
I don't understand how anyone can deny this simple truth.

We look after quite a few high mile (300k+) 2.7 and 3.0 Disco/RRS, all have been run on good quality 5W30 (as JLR requires)

Lubrication technology has moved on, as the 2.7 required 5W30 A1, now it requires A5 spec oil

Of ALL of the engine failures we've had, only 1 has been serviced by us within the past 12 months (but the first time that came into us was with 170k miles on it with an unknown history)

Moreover, from a legal/business point of view, if I serviced your car, and stated I'd filled with 5W40, and you subsequently has an engine failure, where would I stand? I've filled your engine with the incorrect grade of oil...

That phrase is classic internet clickbait - and usually is rumour/opinion based.
Here's a fact, When I worked at a a LR dealers, we had plenty of HA D4's in for service (20+), all of them made it past 1/3 of a million miles with no engine issues or failures, going on to be sold off at 350,000+ miles. They were all serviced within schedule and with the specified lubricants. That, is a fact.

I'm not an engineer, but ignoring the 5w40 debate, his thoughts on the bearing loads and lubrication seem sound to me.

I enjoy the videos. Let’s be honest the internet is full of useless information but I use the information I want to use and tbh his knowledge is far superior than mine. Fair play to them I say..

Only 2 years ago they started making youtube videos about D3 cupholder hacks, lift hight hacks, etc…

The common stuff you can read here in this forum. As a lot of their subjects…. Are Common discussed subjects and “issues” here in this (and maybe other) forums. Now some think they are specialists… 2 years later… because they have a channel on youtube.. and do some “testing”

Maybe they are, i do not know them personally, but at least, the subjects here on this forum are openly discussed and regularly answered/tributed by well known LR/LR indie professionals with proven track records..

@motolab Thumbs Up

This guy claims to work in 'the automotive industry' - anyone know in what capacity? I know plenty that work in that industry, very few would know how to identify weaknesses in crankshaft design (but be excellent in their own field), it's a bit like those we get claiming to know better than the software designers of their cars PDC system 'because they work at Rolls Royce Aero' counting bolts all day....

Big difference between someone who makes a living repairing these, and someone who makes a living with a Facetube channel, making controversial videos Wink

'Entertainment'

Thankfully i've never watched any of their videos or I may be tempted to report them for false advertising.
