If the HTHS is critical then perhaps I should see if they'll let me swap it. Or it may be the correct spec for our diesel s max so could save it for that if that is the case.

Good oil is important to save crankshaft bearings. I'm owned my D3 TDV6 10 years already and always use 5W-40 A3/B3 or otherwise full SAPS oil. More, last 3 years i changed to 5W-50. Unfortunately, even good oils cannot save from broken crankshaft, what is totally unpredictable with this engine. In May 2022 surprise happened - i'm lucky that was 500 meters from home and not in time of our distant offroad trips. Now i have TDV8 under bonnet and substantially little headache:)
By my opinion full SAPS A3/B3 oil with HTHS > 3.5 should be used and changing intervals not more than 10 000km. Repeatedly - to save crankshaft bearings only.Discovery3 TDV8 HSE

I'll see if I can swap for the 5w30 C3 which has the higher hths rating. It is only mids saps rather than full saps but I imagine this is the more important of the two? Minefield.

I am sure someone will correct me but I see there are "high mileage" versions of most oils but only available across the pond, I can't find on sale in the UK.
A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

HTHS defines how well your oil can lubricate your engine. SAPS related parameters (TBN ad sulfated ash at least) define how long your oil can lubricate your engine.Discovery3 TDV8 HSE

I'm going to swap it for the more stable C3 varient, I don't do many miles but do intend to do some longer trips when the opportunity arises. At very least I'll know I've done my best! It'll be changed yearly, I'd think around 6000 miles.

No, but the C3 has a higher HTHS rating (3.5 Vs 3.0) and according to the advice I have taken is more stable compared to the 'ECO' version.
I'm going through everything that I can reasonably service with the best fluids etc that I can achieve, it's a nicer car that's clearly been looked after, my turn to give it a bit of a refresh for the next chapter.
I have confidence in the advice I've been given but obviously in this area it's very much a pays your money takes your choice deal.

FYI: what we need to know about low/mid SAPS oils when we want reasonably select good oil for our engines.
